getting rebellion verison 1.1 meshes to work with 1.52

I think the title sums up my problem but here goes. There are several mods out there that worked in rebellion 1.1 but they won't work for 1.52 anymore. I've come to the conclusion that the reasons for some of them are due to the meshes; as I've tried swapping the meshes of original ships to test the problem.

So my question for the community since I haven't found the answer on my own is, what do I got to do to get the older meshes compatible with the newer game version?

What mod(s)?

What is no working in 1.52?

I'm not seeing any issues in my mod and the vanilla meshes weren't changed in 1.52 either.

Ther were absolutely no changes from Rebellion v1 to v1.52. I'm sorry to say that you are barking up the wrong tree as mesh files cannot be your issue due, unless a mesh file was broken at some point, which is another story altogether.

I would say most likely that conclusion would be wrong, since as Zombie says the meshes were only changed in the transition to Rebellion. There has been no changes due to patches. Are you sure the mods in question are for Rebellion 1.1 and not Original Sins 1.1? That would be a huge difference.

okay, thanks for the replies, guess i should of been a bit more specific. I'm making my own mod (for personal use only, not to be re-distributed)

I've taken Zombies mod SOTF, as a base to work from since i'm still pretty new to modding sins. I've adjusted several races to my liking. Right now i'm trying to make an "Andromeda" race by mixing in the advent with whatever models i can find that look similar to that style ship. I recently found a few models from an old version of the Maelstrom mod that i like and was trying to imput them into the sins game. The verison of the Maelstrom mod was for 1.1 rebellion. The only thing i take from the mod is the meshfile and the accompanying textures.

From there i create a copy of the size ship i want ie. a heavy cruiser and change the mesh file to the new one and create a new entity title and yada yada - the whole process of making a ship. The problem i'm having is that when i then try and play the game it crashes with these mesh files. I've tried other meshes taken from other mods and they work fine, so i presumed that the problem is with the mesh files from Maelstroms verison 1.1

That's why I figured there is something that needs to be done with older meshes. If anyone has any pointers or solutions to the problem that would be great.

thanks

Meshes can crash for many other reasons. What is the exact error message?

The game only crashes into mini-dump, when I choose the race with the modified mesh file. If I choose any of the other races it works fine.

More specifically I check the game first to make sure everything works correctly then, i'll exit and change a generic races ship ie. the advent scout ship etc. to one of the new meshes and the game will still load. it will load and let you do and play however many games you want until you pick that race with the modified file. then it will crash to mini-dump upon the loading screen saying an error has occurred a mini-dump file has been created. I've looked at the mini-dump file but I can't read that code or how to convert it so...

the ship I was trying to use is this one that the Maelstrom mod created:

Mallidax Cruiser

Now the version that I'm taking the mesh and texture from is and older version that I had on my computer, its 1.1 r5

Its all weird. I understand what your saying about the meshes really not being changed; because I've got an Andromeda mesh that Grantye put on moddb for an entrenchment mod that has worked and continues to work fine in the current rebellion version. (despite the texture job not being as great as other models)

So I'm at a loss as to why this one won't go in game.

Are you running the game in the developer.exe? If not, do that to see error messages.

When exactly does it crash? The loading screen? When you build the ship? And exactly what ship did you replace?

okay so I downloaded the reference files and then the patch to make it 1.52 and it all works great as a base. threw in the Andromeda mesh and textures  in place of the radiance battleship and that loads fine.

Then I loaded the mallidax cruiser in as a replacement for the light frigate and I get the assert messages:

Assert @ C:\Projects\P4\SinsRebellion\Release\CodeSource\Engine/Archive/BinaryFileArchive.cpp(106)

numChars < bufferSize

and

Failed to Read File 'C:\Users\Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Mods-Rebellion v1.52 Dev\sins of a solar empire rebellion 1.52\Mesh\Frigate_Utility1_Norlamins.mesh'. desired read bytes = 6357059, actual read bytes = 2025.

 what does all that mean?

Sounds like a corrupt file to me.

I think it was a corrupt mesh, I downloaded the version he updated today and was able to transfer the mesh.
