some help making a basic mod?

as the title says. i want help making a super simple mod. heres what i want to do.

 

switch weapons out on caps. for example. the revalation cruiser. instead of have plasma and laser weapons i want to put plasma and beam weapons :) same for advent SB i want to put beam weapons on it. id also want to redo DMG outputs and hull on caps. but not a biggie. jut want to swap weapons out for now :)

Did you read any of the modding stickies or documentation? This is basically the first things they cover.  ;)

You'll want the part about the reference files, which are the game files that are in plain English. Then its just finding the lines for the Revelation and Starbase and replacing their weapon sections with a ship's that has a beam weapon.
