All Seeing Eye?

Hi there. Complete novice here!! I'm playing a medium sized random map against 4 AI. Struggling too, to be honest, but hey ho, that's because I'm rubbish!!!! Anyway when I'm scrolling around my worlds sometimes I see a kind of 'transparent eye' over one of my planets? Could anyone tell me what it is please? Does it mean I have to explore that particular planet?

Also I know I/you have to expand as quickly as possible, but what it the long term strategy as far as winning is concerned? I'm finding that when I fight one faction I end up with a 'bloody' pirate raid to deal with & another faction decides to 'foray' into one of my worlds!! The last game I played my Capitol got 'bombed' twice in succession & I lost the game because I lost my world!! Is there anything I can do to prevent his from happening?

I know this probably all sounds trivial & bread & butter stuff to all you 'pro' gamers but this is the first RTS game I've played really & its quite tricky at the moment!!

Anyway thanks for any advice.

It is clairvoyance...it's an ability on the Revelation, an Advent capital ship...it can target any planet and allows the user to "see" that planet for a decent period of time...

As for beating the AI, use starbases and level up capital ships/titans...in the long run, you will then have a better fleet than them...

if your new, an easy way to defend against pirates is mines, they will take care of some of the pirates. concentrate them where the incoming pirate ships usually appear in the gravity well. this will either kill them or buy you some time, then just jump one cap ship to clean things up and get xp

Yeah, it basically is like the All Seeing Eye, but without any negative morale issues. Just ignore it, it's nothing to worry about.

I would recommend learning the game without the pirates. And actually I've been playing this game for years and I Still don't usually play with them on.  ;)

If you'd like to learn in a more relaxed and genocidal environment, I made a sort of custom map for a "Free Learning" tutorial here. Basically it is a map where the AI player cannot ever reach you. So if you have pirates off you'll never be invaded by a hostile fleet (though I recommend you do have them on in this case so you can have some practice defending planets). There are some tough battles to try and give you some combat experience but again, you won't be attacked any more than once every 15 minutes from the pirates, so you don't have any real risk of losing.

You may also find my steam guide useful, or just feel free to keep asking us stuff here.

or simply keep putting/raising bounty every now and then when your name pops up

Best counter to pirates is a trade port....most of the ships will chase around your trade ships, allowing you to shoot them without taking too much damage yourself...
