4GB patch?

Hey guys, I read something a short time ago over some action I could do to make rebellion use 4GB of ram instead of 2GB, and since I am incapable of finding it back I'm wondering if anyone here knows how to do that? Since I'm trying to play a mod but with crashes it makes me sad and I"d like to try the 4GB thing and see if it helps :)

They're talking about Large Address Ware, but it is not guaranteed to work with Sins. Some people say it works for them, many have said it doesn't, or causes other stability issues. Try it at your own risk basically.

If you want SOASE -any of them- to use more than 2GB, use Linux.

Or use you can use TSOP once i update it for 1.1 (Shameless plug) :D

Seriously Gofan is right. Large Address Aware is an old beaten down topic here. There are many threads about it. LAA AFAIK is mainly for windows XP systems, and if you use windows 7 you really don't need it. I could be wrong, but i do know that LAA only worked for a few people. For others it did absolutely nothing, but make the game more unstable. If you do use LAA, and it works for you then great. I suggest you study LAA, and research it real good before you try it though.

I believe Thoumsin was a huge proponent of using LAA...you may want to PM him....

Hmm, I rather not try it than if it can cause other issues...Knowing my luck I'll catch all the things that could possibly go wrong :|

I know one SoGE beta tester found LAA to help somewhat, the game was still crashy, but found that enabling a paging file, as the SSD Sins was on didn't have one, to be a much better solution.

If he has a second standard HD it probably would be better to put the page file there. SSD's are good, but from what i hear they don't last very long if they are constantly being written on.

I don't even own an SSD(Omg I'm so behind...Nah just poor ;p) And I rather not risk anything lol

You aren't really missing out....7200 RPM HDs still do their job and last longer...

If I may ask, why do you want to exceed the 2GB limit?  Is it because of modding content or because you just want really really really big games?

Mods... My game crashes on mods sometimes(Especially big ones) and so far really big games been doing fine without any insane amount of minidumps(really big meaning the new Vast map) ofcourse the lag is something that still happens, but i don't see a way how that would get any better and is something that just belongs to this game ;P

Could be an issue with the mod, especially if you are on highest graphics as some mods don't support those...but if you are really sure it is a 2GB wall issue, then I don't see much loss to you for trying it...sure, it may hurt stability of the game (operative word being may) but if you already hit MDs then you already have stability issues...couldn't hurt to try....

Of course, if you have to have linux to do it then obviously that may be a problem...

Which mods are you running? you may want to let the mod project lead know that you got a 2 gig issue.

I adjusted the settings in a mod im playing atm and since I lowered all the settings to medium, its stable at 1-1.2GB of ram use and doesn't crash anymore
