Capitar only one to get road building at the start?

I started the game with a roleplay oriented Capitar character and was very surprised to find that no one elses units seem to get road building at the start like they do. Their pioneers get it and any other unit can be given it for 0 maintenance cost. Is this a remnant of some earlier time before Capitar was removed or is an unadvertised bonus that they receive?

It was an avertised bonus during the beta. This is the only faction to have road building with the pioneers. Every other faction can get hero's to build roads if they take the appropriate traits down the governor path.

I created Umber and Capitar leaders just to let me play against 10+ factions at the same time. I made Capitar leader General and Umber a Bandit Lord, just to diversify my opposition, and they both seem to do pretty well when compared to other factions.

I also made a custom faction from (rebel) wraiths to Kingdom side, with a Noble leader, so now all professions are represented and sides balanced as I play an Empire Beastmaster.  :moo:   The noble wraith rebels, they usually suck, btw.

I was playing with Capitar the other day and totally missed this.  I need to check them out again.  Wonder if this should be an actual faction trait.

It's a blood trait for Mancers.  They have road building and that accuracy bonus.  But the Road building isn't mentioned anywhere, it's super top secret!  Don't tell no one.

What is the benefit of building road early, instead of waiting for auto-road by techs? Does road increase gildar etc?

Defensively you can get your troops around quicker. Also, being able to lay down the road manually lets you skip some bad spots/routes that the automatic roads use. Like when they go through wildlands or through an AI area when not necessary.
