Galaxy Forge

Oh great, another help thread from this guy...

Well, decided to look into this thing...though some parts seem confusing so I'll just throw out the questions/problems.

1. Most likely easy for you guys, but I've searched and failed here: The Planetary Bonuses listed in GF are without an explanation/description. And every time I've tried to hunt down a list online I always found some missing from that list as well, are some of the bonuses listed in Forge named differently in-game? I think I may also keep running into lists from previous Sins games, even though I'm searching Rebellion.

2. How do the planet templates work exactly? I tried editing one of them, but can't tell if it'll let me use my edits...ugh.

3. Probably the most simple one: I might just overlooking it, but how do you ensure a gravity well has a certain number of extractors? Or is that randomized regardless?

Thanks.

The galaxy forge mostly uses the bonus' internal file name. If you don't look at the source files yeah, you might have to just try them out.

Always randomized, the map does not define the number of extractors. The planet itself does.

Eh, it figures, lol.

Was hoping to make sure the Ice/Volcanic planet always had 4 extractors. (making my own little "arena" galaxy. :p)

Thanks. (...again.)

Oh yeah, what about the template thing? o.0

...I dunno where to look for the source files.

Personally I rarely use templates for specific maps. Only if you want one setup repeat a large number of times should you do it. I mostly just use groups on the individual planets.

While this topic is already here - in version 1.04 I've tried everything to set multiple planet bonus on my map. I've read the tutorial and everything worked in entrenchement. Now I have the rebellion, new Forge editor (everything through steam- I did not modify anything) and edited my planets. Inserted a new item with the group manager and filled it with a planet bonus.

Nothing will work. Only bonuses I place on the home planet will work, but if I place them on other planets, nothing will happen. Thats really frustrating, because I want to create my own balanced map.

Can anyone help me out with it? I may even upload my map here, but I can ensure you, that I read everything and in my point of view, I did everything right. Is this a bug?

You are exploring the planets first, right?

Also for bonuses and artifacts, always set the owner to be "NoOwner" and condition "Always".

Aaah, I've always set them to "planet owner" instead of "no owner".

Yes, I'm scouting, then colonizing, then exploring. Every bonus I set on the planet was never available, but as I reloaded the Map in Galaxy Forge, it was still there. In the previous Maps I set the owner to planet owner and it always worked.

So, do I have to set them double, to "no owner" AND "planet owner" and fill two items with all the bonus items or just "now owner"?

Also, is there a difference, if I create for every bonus one item in the item group or can I just create one item and but all bonus things in there?

Was about to ask that too, where's a good place to upload custom maps for everyone? Though I'm going to make multiple variations of this "Arena" style map first...but I think CPUs tend to be stupid sometimes and not protect a certain planet chokepoint like they're supposed to. :p

(it's gonna be interesting seeing actual players play this map though)

Okay, and one thing I've found out, is that you can place metal and crystal asteroids into your system. Use the ateroid button on the "selection toolkit", zoom far far into the planet until you see the gravity well in the editor and the double click inside the gravity well. The asteroids will appear in the game and will replace the normal random spawned ones.

I've placed three ones inside my home system, two metal and one crystal and they were there, exactly on the position where I've placed them. I'm not sure about additional spawning ones, like if you place three of them and four are possible, if the last may spawn.

You have also to set the values for the asteriods, because if you let them at zero, you cannot use them. I'll test that right now.

As for the planet bonus and artifacts: It works now. Putting the ownership to "no owner" will activate the items.

Thank you. :)

Yeah, I'm surprised that even worked on homeworlds.

I'm not understanding what you are trying to ask here. You only need a new group if the spawn conditions or owner are different.

The question is, if it makes any difference, if I place one group item for each content (so one item for every bonus) or if I create one item and store multiple bonuses inside them. As far as I've seen it, it wont make any difference - but I don't know if there are some tricky code-connections inside the building mechanics that I have to be aware on. ;)

But it works in both ways, so I will just put many bonuses and items into one group.

Hah, so you CAN edit the resource asteroids! :p

Gonna tinker with my map some more then. >.>

Yup, one will work, though note that planets cannot have more than 3 bonuses and 1 artifact. If a randomly spawned bonus or artifact would have been generated on that planet, it may replace one you have set, so if its vital that one non-homeworld planet have say a specific artifact, you may want to adjust the artifact and/or planet bonus density to zero.

Its news to me too, I might have to try that sometime...

Figured I'll just ask you here...wanna add me on Steam Goa? (no I won't bombard you with countless questions, lol. But you do help me often. xD)

I don't have any friends on there that care about Rebellion anyways, it sucks. T.T

I've made me a little list of what effects bonuses have - the sins wiki won't help that much, because the names there are not the file-names of editor. I can place many bonuses on planets. Have set the artifacts and bonus probability to 0 and will place everything normally. I have planets with 9 bonus items - so it works.

For the metal/crystal asteroids:

If you create a metal/crystal asteroid, it will show in the gravity-well. But you have to edit its values. You find them, if you right-click on the green blob you created with a double click and then click 'edit'. Now, at the bottom of the list, you'll finde three lines to set values. They are set on 0, so you have to change that.

MaxRefineryCount: 3

ExtractionRate: 0,35 [This is nearly the value like in-game] ( Imortant: There must be a , not a . )

RefineryRate: 0,25 [I've guessed this value - maybe wrong, maybe right, but it won't imbalance the game I think]

Good Luck!

Putting in a comma just gives me an invalid value error.

the comma is probably for shevanoquam's windows language/region settings, for yours use your usual of the fullstop as the usual  seperator between the full number and the 'decimal' part eg in english language countries it is often ##,(thousands, millions, billions)###.(decimal)#### but it is a country/language dependent thing.
