Mod merging

Kryo's hull system mod + Tolmekian's Techtree fixes = ?

Hey there! As suggested, I've tried merging these two awesome mods (Kryo's hull system and Tolmekian's fixes) and so far it works (sort of). Unfortunately I've come upon a rather annoying bug(?), the AI seems to build invisible ships and if I attack them, well the battle goes normally but then crashes when I try to exit the combat screen. I've tried to track down what may be causing this but so far I haven't been successful. So here I am, asking for help. . . Any ideas any1?

Download WinMerge and use that to compare two mod's text files for differences and merge them manually the right way.

I don't think Kryo's mod is for Twilight of the Arnor. Maybe that's the problem.

Actually, bbr91, there is indeed a version for TA. Anyways I managed to fix it yesterday, Kryo's hull mod seemed to be the culprit. Since I have galciv2 ultimate all I needed to do was edit the .bat to get that feature (main hulls as jewelry) running correctly. So far into my current test game I haven't stumbled upon any cloaked ships hehehe. Oh and I just merged in HRGM (and a few tweaks of my own), this game is so awesomely easy to mod (even easier than civ4 or Fallout 3 or FNV)! Sucks to have found out so late about this game *sigh*.

Check out their fantasy 4X game, Fallen Enchantress. It's even more moddable. Although it's still in beta phase.

Does anyone know how to stop the major memory drain in GCII?

it seems i can never finish a game because it runs out of memory for saving, and crashes 20+ turns later.(medium galaxy, 2 majors, 1 minor.)

I never had that problem, ever. If you play for long periods of time, on huge maps you may encounter the error that it ran out of memory but it's not really a problem since it has autosave.

You might want to try enabling Large Addressing for GC2.  See here.

If you've already done that and you keep running out, you're going to have to make some sacrifices.  No, come away from the Mayan sacrificial altar, you don't need to sacrifice those nice Torians.  What I mean is that if you're using custom planet textures from the HRG mod, those could be eating up a fair bit of memory.  Try playing without and see if that lets you play for longer.

You may also want to try checking 'Unload Unused Textures' in the options screen.

I use HGR and have no problems at all. I assume you do have at least 1-2GB of RAM, right? The game has long surpassed its initial minimum requirements.

EDIT: As an alternative to the LAA, I recommend the simple 4GB patch here.

I never used it for GalCiv 2 though, since I don't have problems with it.

2024 Mb RAM,(~2 Gb), Win Vista 32x( :'( ), HRG mod(recently found out i had unchecked U.L.U.T.

also, are these good for ultimate edition?:

1. AMD Sempron 3100+ Processor (1.80 GHz)

2. Nvidia Geforce 6100, Integrated RAMDAC, 512 MB memory, 1280x1024 max screen res(thats just my screen, and its only workable in 1024x7##(forgot) windowed.)

768 :) Yes they're good enough specs, but avoid playing maps bigger than "large". Your processor is rather weak.

i know....it sucks.

i WANT something thats not AMD or Intel or ATI(if they make processors)

ATI is owned by AMD and they make all kinds of chips: GPUs, CPUs, northbridge chipsets, etc. Intel and AMD together own like 99% of the processor market, the other 1% is probably attributed to ARM and other specialized manufacturers for mobile and embedded devices.

Therefore it's either Intel or AMD. I believe AMD processors are cheaper. I suggest you take a friend that's up to date with the latest advances in desktop computers and let him pick a new gaming computer for you. Or you could only upgrade your motherboard, processor and video card. RAM is rather cheap, except if you have DDR1, which you might not find anymore.

But this is completely off-topic.

Yeah sorry.

The Geforce 6100 is actually an nForce integrated chipset. So whatever memory it is using is actually being subtracted from your system memory. Running Vista on top of that will take another large bite out. You'll be lucky to have 1GB available after that, so I would very strongly recommend not using HRGM or any other memory-hungry mods. Even if your pagefile is sufficient to prevent it from going OOM, you're going to suffer an enormous performance hit if it has to dig into it.

Well that sucks.
