Rebellion: MOBA: Sins of the Titans

The more I look at Rebellion, the more I wonder why they didn't just make it a MOBA.

Seleuceia named the game right: SINS OF THE TITANS

Let's stop trying to fool ourselves and everyone else that the game should be balanced, support fleets are worth dealing with now and that Rebellion isn't about the Titans and Op starbases.  Lets, as a modding community, make the Rebellion MOBA.  Let newbies not have to worry about economies, building fleets and managing more than 1 ship at a time, or even colonizing new worlds.  Think of it.  We can so completely simplify the game for them that they won't even have to unlearn the MOBA skills that have flashed into their DNA.

5 asteroid home start points with 8 civ/mil labs, 4 factories that beacon fleets and send them to scout like minions, and an artifact with 50k hull and 50 armor that generates some credits/metal/crystal per minute for 'research upgrades'.

You of course start with your TITAN/CHAMPION and if you lose it, no worries!  They cost nothing to build and only take 30 seconds to get on the field.  Once you and your fellow champs start the match, run the 'LANES' and investigate spawns to get experience and 100% salvage from whatever you or you fleet/minions can blow up.

Forget Empire management -well, most of it.  The map will have tons of asteroid fields and lots of uncolonizable planets that you can't put starbases in.  You will have some "TURRET" planets where you can plant down 2 starbases per player, but we'll nerf the starbases to a single 'Flavor' weapon because 3 are just too damn much to consider.

Fleet Management -nah... too much thinking makes for bad gaming!
Okay, colonyships will be able to deploy phase jump inhibitors and turrets -but then they go boom just like starbase constructors.  These are the only 3 'frigates' you will be able to build.
The only capitalship you will be able to build is one that deploys turrets, repair platforms, hangars, mines, and phase jump inhibitors -without blowing itself up.

MINIONS!
There are capitalships, but you start with 9000 fleet supply and 64 capital ship slots.  The capitals are not going to gain armor, hull, shields, antimatter, etc... per level -not even strikecraft per level.  They'll gain 5% damage, but their stats will start at being about L4 vanilla with no tech applied.  Only their abilities will improve.  As with your spawned frigate we're using "pickRandomPlanetToExploreForAutoCastTarget TRUE" and all ships will have that scout ability on them so they do it.

Research
This is something that the average MOBA player can do really well.  They buy boots, armor, swords, hammers, mana potions and all sorts of shit.  Remember, you get 100% of the credits, metal, crystal that goes into what you kill.  We can re-arrange the research so there are the special things like "Autocannons of Thunderous Doom" and "Plasma Shokolate Nipples" or the popular "Engines of Elven Kin" that make your capital minions and even your Titan the nimblest ballerina of the stars.

For those of you who think you know me and think I'm just taking an incredibly long piss in woods at Rebellion, Stardock, Ironclad and their own MOBA development, I'm not.  I think we've enough creativity to take 6 titans and split them into Carry, Tank and Support Titans just so there is some flavor.  We could also have different weapons unlocked by different research.

Just consider it.  Who'd want to make a MOBA Mod for Rebellion?

Just mod out all the new Rebellion units and abilities and revert it back to Trinity--make it a mod for people that want it.

I'm betting most people playing rebellion will want Rebellion though.

Because people can't think outside the box.......
End of Ryat's quote

It's been proven from at least a dozen independent unbiased studies that there is in fact nothing but a barren wasteland outside the box. People need to stop their heinous thoughtcrimes and accept that everything they want or need is inside the box, carefully monitored by our benevolent cephalopod overlords...

I could totally swing this.

But it would be way too boring to play after I spent a week turning the game into the equivalent of a moba...

If anyone really wants to play one though, I'll point your sorry asses in the right direction.  The key is in how to go about replicating minion behavior, killing shit on your way to the enemy.

ApplyBuffToTargetsAtAdjacentOrbitBodies.

With a single possible route for each planet, excluding your capital, and phase jump disabled "minions", you can set them up to spawn off the outer planet by filtering based on enemy and bouncing the spawn back from that.  You then set them up to "jump" to the next planet when there are no enemies present.  Self spawning ships, once again using adjacent enemy planets to control where they go.  I suggest you use a periodic passive that applies a delayed trigger for the jump event, with each ship canceling them all out when damage is taken.

Get the timing right, and your fleets can be controlled within their orbit, but automatically destroy and replicate themselves in the next well over when it's time to move on.  With proper cancellation built into the planets based on ownership, it would make for smooth, error proof tide of minions, working from one planet to the next, relying on your titans to shift balance and turn the tide.

Build your map, lay out defenses, and you're all set.  Lame ass moba created.

@OP Honestly if you can mod the game like that, WHICH I DOUBT. You think you are the first to suggest such a mod, if it was possible people would have done it already. The fact it hasn't been done yet, it is because it can't be done.

It's a good thing I don't rise to bait, or I'd be blowing a week proving that wrong...

It would be shit, but a moba ain't that hard to do in rebellion.

In all seriousness I think it could be done- But honestly we're in the middle of a Moba boom right now; If you want to play a Moba there are plenty of options which will likely be better then anything done as a Sins mod.

Ok, I'm not that experienced in Sins Modding and even I can tell that this would likely be possible.

The Asteroid homes starting with a tech labs and such can be done with galaxy forge alone.

The artifact would require some basic modding of entity files.

Being able to build a Titan from the start of the game is easy, as is having it cost 0 fleet supply and be buildable in 30 seconds. Again, simple entity file modding.

100% salvage is possible using buffs from abilities already in the game.

Nerfing Starbases, allowing two to be built on some planets and none on others is basic entity modifying. Not hard at all.

The Fleet Management section would be more tedious than difficult to do. Not that hard.

The only hard thing about what is mentioned in "Minions" is getting them to move from planet to planet. Psychoak has already provided a solution for this, however.

The Research section, again, is more tedious than difficult, and could be done without too much worry.

The reason it hasn't been done yet is because there are more than enough MOBAs out there, and in the opinion of many MOBAs in general are shit. This is probably the wrong community to make a straight MOBA for, though I am interested in seeing how Sins of a Dark Age turns out.

By the way, I apologize for polluting the Modding subforum with my particular vaguely trollish form of bronydom. But birds of a feather flock together, and when I saw a vaguely trollish thread.......

It's only shameless when you bump your own thread with empty content several times a day to keep it near the top of the post list.
