Has the diplomatic side of sins changed?

Since I started playing rebellion whenever I try to go down the diplomatic route it's not working very well in my single player games. Missions award only a puny improvement to faction relations, in fact it even seems that missions are given out far less frequently then in trinity/diplomacy. Just getting a cease fire in order to send in the envoys safely is quite difficult. The AI relationship with you and your relationship with the AI tend to be extremely in the negative and even with all diplomacy research might not be enough to get a cease fire. In the games I've currently played the only factions I had success with were the same factions as myself and also the same allegiance. That kinda ruins the advanced packs you can form with other factions other then your own one.

Does anyone else find this to be the case with single player games against the AI in rebellion? Maybe there are other tricks to forcing the relationship values to be improved? If that was the case please do share =)

What race do you play?

TEC rebel the Xeno phobes?

I've played a few long games with TEC rebels and Vasari loyalists. In both those games I only managed to get diplomacy going with the same factions as myself along with same allegiance .

Both those have the worst diplomatic standing. TEC rebel hate everyone except the pirate and the vasarie loyalist just want to strip planets and run...

Ttry the vasarie rebel, the Rebel advent or the tec loyalist... If I understand they are the ones willing to cooperate.

There was a post where someone listed the actual values and which race was against which...

Buy the relationship upgrade techs and get trade going as soon as you can.  Vasari Rebels are the easiest to get diplomacy going with since they're trying to be cooperative with the other races.

So.. I only play vs AI, and not once, ever, have I used an envoy or diplomacy other since the Diplomacy expansion. I have started offering missions in Rebellion to put added pressure on someone I'm going after, but that's it.

Am I missing out?

Do you mean the trade agreement/treaty between factions? Does that improve relations alongside establishing possible trade routes with the faction the treaties with?

Yes. Once you get trade and get a trade treaty (not the pact, the ones all factions can offer), then you two won't attack each others trade ships and your relationship will slowly go up proportional to the amount of trade you do. This can be a nice boost to put you up to a cease fire provided you don't start blasting each others fleets.
