My impressions of the game

I bought the original elemental game, so received this beta for free. I thought i would give it a go over the weekend, so heres my findings on the game:-

 

The game seems to run too fast IMHO, even on epic. this maybe just me, but expansion by the computer players just seems too fast.

Combat victory seems a very easy way to win, on normal level (have not tried harder settings yet), and can be quite tedious.

Im not a hardcore player, and I know this is a beta, but having played elemental, and now fallen enchantress, im having trouble seeing much difference between them, at the moment to be quite honest. I know this will probably annoy the fanboys, but its how i felt, having played both games.

Since I am a fanboi (in the sense that I like FE), I will not say too much. Still, you should try the game a few times, and notice that there are TONS of improvements. FE is actually a game, while the original game was just plain nothingness. I play with dense monsters on challenging and its great fun. Increase the difficulty level of your game and start to enjoy. Remember that the AI isnt finished by a long shot.

Combat gets tedious in most 4x games, thats why they have auto-battle. The AI will improve over time with more patches.

 

If you are a casual player you may not notice the changes, since the core elements are the same. Besides better graphcis, UI, etc, the thing to look for is the special abilities of units that make them behave in a unique fashion. You will be required to make choices, between what technology to research, what perks to choose, what buildings to build. More importantly, these choices will matter and influence the outcome of the game. I think these will be easier to notice and will improve the experience as more patches are released.

 

I would say that if you check back after a few patches and if you pay attention to the things I mentioned you will probably be more impressed. Also, if you compare the games side by side you may change your mind on how similar they are. I personally make this mistake all the time as my memory isn't that great.

I think I will check back in a couple of months, to see how the game plays. Like I said im a casual gamer whos played both games, and if I did not know any better I would have thought I was playing elemental, to be honest. The missions are very similar etc, to the original. Maybe they have not got round to doing these much yet, as its still in beta, so I will have to cut them some slack, and wait and see.
