Its a Simple mod that adds 3x Titans and 3x Dreadnoughts to the stock game "Diplomacy v1.34" Using models(.mesh) stolen from other peoples mods.  The TEC/Advent/Vasari Dreadnought and Tec Titan use models(.mesh) from sins of new Eden (size and Meshpoints altered) and the Advent and Vasari use models(.mesh) from Maelstrom Expansion R7 (size and Meshpoints altered)

This is the worst form of modding possible and should not be encouraged by the community in any way, shape or form.

Bad Form all around.  Correct Form:

  1. develop your own work as much as possible.  Stealing and cobbling other people's work together doesn't make you a modder, just an inconsiderate thief with a knowledge of notepad.
  2. contact mods with request help on a certain aspect or request to use content (with promise that they will receive credit) or if you already have it, ask them and if they say no, don't use it.
  3. don't assume that mods either in progress or released as final will appreciate you taking what they've worked either months or years on.

If there were a way to give negative "Karma", I would.  Just in case you get the idea to use anything from 7 Deadly Sins, you can't.  I can't speak for any other mod out there, but people who steal from other mods are repellant.  Get permission or grow your own mod.

Semaz summed up my thoughts as well.  After reading that, I barely even skimmed the rest of your mod.  If you get permission, that's one thing and perfectly acceptable (true, it doesn't show skill to use other people's work, but doing such needn't yield disrespect), but you didn't do that.

Indeed. Models are a pain to get, I know. But to release a mod with them without permission isn't cool. Now if this was just a private mod for yourself then no one would care, but to share it with the world is another thing entirely.

Well technically some very old mods are now basically public domain. Sins plus and Bailknights for example. But Maelstrom is most certainly in development still, and perhaps Sins of new Eden too, so this is certainly not one of those cases.

As a new modder just learning how to do things he may not yet be aware of the "etiquette of modding". Unfortunately he is learning this the hard way.

It is pretty much a gentleman's agreement within the modding community that you seek out permissions from the original authors before using other peoples work in your projects. Especially if it is copyrighted Intellectual Property (example star trek, star wars, B5 etc. are forms of copyrighted IP that have very strict rules for mod usage). The only exceptions are if open permissions are given by the original mods authors, or in some cases the if the other mod is abandonware, and its authors disappeared off the face of the earth. STILL you should make sure credit for that work is given where it is due. It is a form of respect to the other modders who worked on the old abandoned project.

Regardless. The rule of thumb is to seek out permissions before you use others work, and put it up for download. The modding community is pretty reasonable, and will more than likely approve if you ask them first.

Sins of New Eden uses CCP IP with permission from CCP itself. So CCP would be the one to seek permissions from for your titans. CCP does NOT give out permissions for just any project. They are pretty strict about how you use their IP, and WILL make you cease, and desist if you use their works without permission, or if they think your project portrays Eve Online negatively.
