Fridge Nostalgia

I don't know if anyone here remembers an old-school Playstation J-RPG called Xenogears. Suffice to say it's what would happen if Friedrich Nietzsche, Jacques Lacan, Sigmund Freud, and Hideaki Anno had a J-RPG as a love child.

Well, I remember this game fondly from my high school days (before I outgrew such things). And it occurs to me that some of the Rebellion developers might have played it, too.

Exhibit A: The Eradica Titan:

Exhibit B: The titular mecha from Xenogears:

Though I found the Advent Titan designs to be a bit of a departure from traditional Advent ship designs (which tended to resemble molluscs rather than terminal weapons of an organic planetary assault system powered by an enslaved being from a higher plane of existence), I nevertheless approve the shout-out, if shout-out it is, from a nostalgic perspective.

Anybody else see the resemblance?

Given the code name for the Eradica was the Cherubim in development, I think their more direct inspiration was from mythology. Some more discussion on it in this thread.

I remember. It just reminded me of Xenogears, that's all. :P
