Bug - Crash to Desktop

Bug - Crash to Desktop

Runtime Error

Bug - Runtime Error - A Problem with C++  - crash to desktop - several hours into the game - happens every game

I've seen a number of posts but other than one brief mention that you were hoping to get information sent via STEAM I have not seen any new information on this bug.

  • It's not listed as a known issue
  • It has happened in every version of the game regardless of patches
  • It does not generate a minidump file to send to you

I have the most up to date patches, programs, and drivers for my PC.

Currently using:

Windows 7 64

Quad Core I7 Extreme

12 Gigs of RAM

560 Nvidia

I'd like to see some more feedback on this issue.  For me this is a gamebreaker and I'm concerned that although many others have this problem there isn't a lot of feedback.

Thanks,

Kosten

PS - Rebellion is fantastic so far (until it crashes)

I've done some extensive tasting playing around with almost every video setting and I can not seem to find a pattern with the C+ CTD.

Any work or update on this problem yet?

Still an issue.  Sorry I haven't had time to put into this game x1 week or so, but it crashed to desktop with a nebulous C++ error message and didn't leave a sins dump.  this was after about 2h of play.

I did turn down all of my texture/shading options to their lowest level (the ones that are available on the default vid options screen with the resolution settings and all (although my resolution was still 1920x1024).

My system event viewer did log an entry at the time, although lots of event logs seem to be created all the time...

I emailed what it spit out, (Case 89675).

Not much to go on, I know, but hope this at least helps a little.

Large map, 1 star, all default victory conditions, playing as TEC Loyalist, everything else should be default except for reduced video options as per above.

Anywhere else that I can find any useful logs that I could send you?

Cheers,

The game crashed on me  again today, straight to desktop. I was playing TEC Rebels against 3 AIs on Random Medium map, shortly before it happened i queued the Xeno-something research in the Diplomacy tab. The moment it happened i was zooming in on my Ragnarov (was alone in the gravity-well) making a phase-jump.

Its really annoying, that i cant see any pattern in these crashes. When i think it happens only during heated battles, perhaps pointing out to some instability (cause of my CPU overclock or something), it crashes like this, watching single ship jump... really it seems to me the only common denominator is the zooming process.

Yea, I haven't necessarily found this, per se.  It seems to be true only insofar as I find myself zooming in or out about 60% of the time while playing (the game does involve a lot of panning and zooming).  Although, I don't know that I've had a crash while zoomed all the way out - not that I'm zoomed all the way out more than 2% of the time though, so I wouldn't necessarily expect to either....

It would be useful if we were able to have better event monitoring when this happens.

I have maxed my graphics - everything on highest, all graphic options on, FSAA 4x, 1920x1200.

It didn't seem to hasten the CTD in any way.

My system is not RAM constrained (8GB), but my video memory is 'just' 512MB.

What seemed to do the trick though, was alt-tabbing to the desktop and getting back to the game.

Playing on a huge multi-star game, already on a late game, alt-tabbed once and browsed a bit.

Going back to the game started lagging the input. Clicking on any button or confirming some structure placement took some time between the mouse click and the action actually happen, sometimes several seconds. After the input lag started, the game crashed in ~5 minutes.

Could make it crash a few times with alt-tabbing.

You may be on to something here at least for certain types of crashes because I have noticed that the mouse capture issue with multi moniters always pops up (if it hadn't allready) after an alt-tab so something changes when the game is alt-tabbed.
