How are prior purchases of non-steam games handled?

So, I have bought Trinity on Impulse way back when it was still operated by SD. Now I read that Rebellion uses Steamworks. What about the old titles? Is Rebellion a stand-alone game that incorporates all the old content? Or do I have to rebuy Trinity on Steam?

Rebellion is stand alone, it doesn't rely on Trinity at all. It's essentially Trinity + new stuff.

Now if you already own Trinity, go here and buy Rebellion. Trinity owners get $10 off if they buy from Stardock directly (they send you a Steam key, so the game still plays on Steam).

No dice. The SD store doesn't offer any payment methods for my country. And I am still at war with Paypal (and won't be using it anymore even after the war is won, obviously).

Ah, that's a shame. :(
