Regular Constructors need lovin

The war has been going on for a long time now, and the little guys doing all the work haven't had good job security from day 1.

Yes i'm talking about the noble constructors that we all know and love, and that we LOVE to destroy as target priority #1.

These guys should go on strike from how terrible their working conditions are.

So here is my suggestion, now that corvettes are in the game and REALLY threaten the livelihood of these guys, lets have something to make them a little more interesting.

All races should get a researchable tier 1 defense ability that allows them to research a racially specific constructor buff.

TEC: Constructors get some armor and double their current health, this helps them survive as long as they are near a healing structure.

Advent: Constructors get some shields (50% of their HP) and respawn 10%-20% faster if destroyed

Vasari: Constructors move faster and have faster turning rates (to run to safety under vasari starbase and/or phasic trap).

Just start the things with shields and all would be well...call me pessimistic but at this point adding more technologies to the game does not sound like a very good idea, we already have enough techs already in game that are useless...

You could change existing techs to make them more useful....I'm thinking Civilian Safety Act, Karmic Retribution, and Phasic Barrier...I'd advocate re-purposing those (or simply adding to them) to make those techs buff constructor durability....

Well this wouldn't be a useless tech, it would be VERY relevant and I can guarentee that i'd be researching it quite often.  This isn't so relevant for single player play, but it could be if the AI was ever designed to attack constructors first (to simulate human players).  The nice thing about adding new tech into the game is that its easy, and cost effective for the developers to do so, with few bugs.  +100 to developers incorporating business model and game design.

I'm not saying your ideas are useless...what I'm saying is, instead of adding new techs that are useful (and leaving useless techs still in the game), why don't you solve two problems and re-purpose or improve an existing tech that is currently useless....

ah I agree there, so many techs...like who ever researches lingering presence for advent scouts?  this should just be inherent so that scouting is more interesting at the start of the game...

I do, so I can just suicide one at a pirate base and keep my other scouts from killing themselves for 5 minutes. Though obviously not if I have a rush on multiplayer coming.

Exactly, so many simple and interesting techs aren't used because of this.

To make these low use techs worth it have them cost like 100 credits and 10 metal or something like that..have them cost proportional to their noticable impact in the game...

These could be subtle faction strengths instead of semi useless credit dumps.
