New Galaxy Forge in Rebellion

I found something interesting included within the files for rebellion...a brand new galaxy forge!=p I was kinda sad when i tried to import my maps into rebellion....it didnt work=[ Anyway, for those wanting to open it, do the following (on vista 32 bit)....

1 click start, go to computer

2 go into drive rebellion is on...then program files=p

3 find steam folder, then go to SteamApps

4 enter common folder, then rebellion folder...

5 next, click on galaxy forge...find the .exe, right click and send to desktop!

6 rename it by right clicking, then rename, and add a reb to the end for rebellion (if you have the old galaxy forge too, for original sins...

just wondered what the community thinks of the new forge....about to test it out=p

By the way....if you make an awesome map, why not post a screenshot?=p

Yeah, they told us this in the Beta 2 change log, but thanks for telling people where to find it.

I think its a little better than the old one. You can place all the artifacts now, specify the size of individual gravity wells, and its a bit easier to select stuff. We didn't get any copy paste or undo button though, and while there is a big section for triggers there doesn't seem to be anything done with them... :S

Why?! <X3

you're welcome Goa=p at least there's a quick save....better than nothing i guess=p

cant really say why there boshimi.....just dont know WWHHHHYYYYYYYY......=[

but anyway, maybe the trigger could be used to make events like in the tutorials....potentially a complete campaign? B)

guess we can only mess with it to find out...

I actually can't use it. Makes me sadface. I get a "GalaxyForge has encountered a problem and needs to close" error, every time. I wasn't even expecting new features, I just wanted to update some of my maps to maybe add Moons or something. Anyone else having this problem (or: anyone using this on XP, who knows, maybe the entire Sins community moved on to 7 or something)?

Copy, Paste, and Undo would be nice.

I think 99% of the people who ask about a new feature in GalaxyForge ask about Copy, Paste and Undo.

Why have they not given it?! D:

Tbh, I'd be happier with "fixed starting positions" actually working, consistently.

No matter having configured all steps ("edit players" > Team Index + "planet" > "ownership" + "ishomeplanet" & finally "randomisepositions" =  false)  I can still not reliably have me and my 3 mates start in the preferred positions as a 4v4 against the AI...there's always one the of the AI stuck on our front door in just the wrong place :(

Copy/Paste/Undo would be nice, and 'Templates'  (so you could build a little cluster of planets, in a particular 'shape' etc, then save these as a template which can then be added to the map and rotated...this would make it much quicker to build structured/balanced maps whereby all players are equal re: resources, phase lane distances etc), would have been useful.

I'll get my coat now ;)

Brewber, then you are not doing it good. I've always had starting positions the way I wanted them to. Always been able to start wherever I want. PM me otherwise?

Although, could be an error in the new GalaxyForge, if you are using the new one?

I have had no problems with fixed starting positions either, unless that is a bug the new GF introduced.

Ugh... Galaxy Forge working for half the crap its supposed to be able to do would be nice.  Oh and undo buttons.  Haven't we been asking for that since ever though? :P

To Skippster I can still use Galaxy Forge on XP.

I have had a problem in GF before the new one with fixed starting positions.  If you have a race specific template for them--meaning they will only spawn units if it is "X" race--and then the AI is assigned start position but doesn't have that race, it can swap positions and as a result scramble all or most of the ones following it in the same way.

It's complicated to explain I'll have to go back to my WolfPack map and edit the templates with the Rebellion race names and maybe I can detail it for you.

yeah...i try not to mess with the race templates, but instead remember what AI player should be which race....like volcanic home-worlds are Vasari and stuffs=p Anyways, if you guys don't mind me asking, has anyone made a map with the new forge that shows up and works in-game? I have my files where they should be and everything, but nothing=[ any suggestions?

I need a little help. I'm having trouble saving the map. Not sure where to save it.

hey 08=p just go through to step 5 at the top of the page, and save the maps to galaxy forge folder within rebellion=]...for some reason mine dosen't work even so.....

Put it in "My Documents" -> "My Games" -> "Ironclad Games" -> "Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion" -> "GalaxyForge" folder.

hey goa....I know now what I did wrong.....There are 2 galaxy forge folders, one in the steam apps version of the game, the other in my docs....and I saved my maps tp the steam version=p

the steam apps galaxyforge folder IS the rebellion galaxyforge PROGRAM.

rebellion only looks at the steamapps galaxy (and only shows the galaxies that are in the galaxy.manifest), the my docs\my games\ironclad\sins rebellion\MapDesigner (for the map designer maps) AND the my docs\my games\ironclad\sins rebellion\GalaxyForge (for the galaxy forge maps).

the above is from observation and total LACK of access to the source, but a solid understanding of programming.

If I installed Steam on a secondary drive and all the games get downloaded there, where would I find Galaxy Forge?

In your secondary drive, in the steamapp folder you should see a folder for all your games, including Rebellion. Galaxy Forge should be in there.

For a second there I thought Goa said he had a girlfriend. Then I read it again, very carefully, very slowly........... Nope, I was mistaken. Silly me! Pull your head out of these forums Goa and start playing this awesome game called:

I realize this may hit you as a bit rude. It's all for jokes mate, no harm intended. My excuse? I was bored as fuck and couldn't sleep, so I start bothering experienced modders. ;P

Found it, thanks. I made a simple 4 system map, but after I saved it to the galaxyforge folder in Rebellion, I cant find it in the game. What should I do?
