Champion units and body guards?

Really like the beta so far for FE, but one of the gripes I had with WOM was the lopsided combat. An army stack of 7 warriors in one square, fighting a champion all alone in his own square. I understand the reference to Suron cleaving his way thru troops of enemies, but we get so many champions in this game. As well the glass cannon style is a little wierd.

Personally I like how Shogun Total War 2 has super units, generals, but they come with bodyguard troops in their stack. Can this be adapted to FE? I think combat might work abit better if your Champion is bundled with back up troops attacking other troops. When playing Elemental I always figure my champions as great generals dictating combat, but with their powers they also should be right in the thick of combat, but they just need a little back ;-)

Hmm.

Well I think it would be cool if Champions could be attached to units as "Captains" or "Commanders" of that unit ... but I can see how initiative could become a bit of a problem.

While I like the idea, this is one of those things that just straight up are NOT going to happen. It would require a complete re-design of how champions function at the moment.

I don't like the suggestion. (Sorry)

We are not talking about a hero taking down hundreds of men in a Sauron stylee, we are talking about them at most taking 9 men down in one go, that is not at all beyond the realms of reality. I am not interpreting the animation as the only attack, rahther the hero would get stuck inn, spiralling around, countering and attacking. I want my heros to be exactly that.. Heros.

Still each to their own, I am sure many people will disagree.
