I had to fight a lot of 20k+ life starbases in a 10FFA with 9 hard comps in Reb Beta, so they definitely upgrade. Have you considered playing it...

My biggest problem with the AI is their constant jumping of capital ships in and out of combat - they don't stay and fight, just pop in and out, allowing you to simply sit a ship or two at their entry point and slowly work them down.

Starbases are definitely being upgraded. However I'm seeing a lot of Percheron spamming by the AI, and very little use of capital ships offensively.

I second what Ceih are saying. It's very annoying when the AI do the "Jump dance" because it's usually just when I have taken a enemy planet with a massive fleet. So I can't continue attacking with that fleet until I have built adequate defences on the planet which take a while.

Edit: I've also noticed the other behaviours he mentions.

the ai is broken it has been since beta give them some time to get it working right

I wouldn't say it's broken. To me it feels more like it isn't tweaked yet to handle new things like titans and corvettes.

Besides this is a Beta forum. We're encouraged to complain and if it's one thing that gamers are good at it's complaining. Combine this with their weakest personality trait, patience and it's a miracle this forum is so...tidy.

Don't worry too much about the AI.  If having an intelligent opponent is really important to you, you'll play against people in online multiplayer.

Nah. I'm mainly a single player gamer and have always been. There's too much grief in multiplayer except LAN play.

The AI rebels end up just using pirates after awhile I have a game going with three vicous AI rebels and it's like getting attacked with pirates that have Nova cannons. D: I would go to multiplayer but it's just not that fun lrm to titan or sova to lrm scout to titian or titian then lrm for lols or LRM kodiak titian or LRM repair Titian or Titian repair cruisers that sums up multi just rather have a good AI they are more polite.

I just started a game againt 3 "normal" AIs. It tried to slow down my expansion with hit&run tactics. Now that I've thrown down the starbases the AI simply does... nothing.

I don't really get it.

I rarely use starbases because I spend my resources on ships instead. The normal AI have attacked my planets defended with a couple canons and hangars though.

And if you are yourself intelligent, you will flee the online multiplayer who is populated with these racist impolite agressive peoples... have try it in 2008 when the game was released and will never try it again... these online guy don't know what it is to have fun, the only thing who matter is victory at all cost... if you are a newbie and that you make some tactical error ( it happen in any learning stage ), in place of advice you for become better, they insult you...

They'll always be a couple jerkwads out there, but most of the people aren't jerks like that.  Are you really going to allow a couple bad apples to kick you off the playground?  If you get insulted, grow a pair and insult them back.  What are they going to do?  Throw a punch over the Internet?

The good news is that it looks like Rebellion won't allow for smurfing; you'll be able to see how experienced players are.
