Rebellion compatible

I don't know if my current pc will be able to play Rebellion that well, and I was wondering if it will be compatible with Entranchment or Diplomacy...will I be able to take the new ships in Rebellion and put them in my Entranchment mod? or the new Skyboxes?

Some things will work but others won't.  They've stated the engine has changed some so there will be things there that won't happen in vanilla.  They have mentioned one new ability condition back a bit so that wouldn't be there and I'm sure there will be other things.

I imagine a lot of the ships, planets, etc. may work but might need editing if new things are in them.

You won't be able to take the newer Rebellion content back into previous versions. We've had to update data formats and many other components for the new content which the prior releases wouldn't recognize.

So no doubt then that existing mods will have to be completely rebuilt from scratch to be Rebellion compatible. I kind of saw this coming, and prepared for it with SoA 2. As should we all if we want to port over to rebellion.

On the bright side, this will allow us to ensure bug-free releases by painstakingly adding files back in one at a time!

Indeed. Now that Gamespy confirmed that Rebellion will be a Stand Alone game we wont have to worry about files mixing with Trinity, or what version is for what. Everything can be designed specifically for Rebellion only.

That will simplify my world.

One thing for sure is that with the new shader, particle effect and effect will know some huge change...

Do Stardock plan to release a new forgetool in the same time that rebellion ??? If the .fx files are modified, the particle forge will not work anymore... reference files will help modders too... maybe update the tutorial .pdf in the same time since they are not anymore accurate since sins 1.1 ( switch of the alpha cl with the red da was never included )...

Since Rebellion is the last expension for sins, it is certainly good news for modders... after release and a few patch, modders will be able to work on a final version of their mod... until sins II is released :p

I would assume that with Rebellions new shaders an update to the Forge Tools would be in order. They havent been updated in a LONG time.

There will be an updated Particle Forge. The shadows do their own thing internally, so we didn't need to update any of the other tools for them.
