GalCiv II Ultimate - Holi-Daily-Deal at December 22nd and store.stardock.com

Hi!

GalCiv II Ultimate will be on sale for just 13.35ยง at December 22nd. I already own GalCivII Dread Lords as well as GalCivII Endless Universe (standalone expansion pack with DA and TotA) and both are registered at Impulse. Dread Lords shows up in my store.stardock.com account but is not downloadable from there (yet?), Endless Universe doesn't even show.

Now that deal would offer me an opportunity to entirely get rid of Impulse. I just want to make sure, that I will be able to

1) download it directly from Stardock without Impulse and

2) to play DA instead of the broken TotA.

Anyone already bought GalCivII Ultimate directly from store.stardock.com to confirm this?

Just gave it a try and it works. I was allowed to download GalCivII Ultimate from within my account at store.stardock.com at fullspeed and after installing I had just to Copy&Paste my new serial number into an registration form. Nice, slick and user friendly.

Unfortunately there is no menu within the game launcher to select which chapter one wants to play (Endless Universe had that feature), the launcher just starts TotA by default. Manually executing GC2DarkAvatar.exe from C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Galactic Civilizations II - Ultimate Edition\DarkAvatar works though.

Meanwhile Elemental - War of Magic also became availiable for download in my Stardock account and so I said goodbye to Impulse forever.

Did I say "nice, slick and user friendly"? :P

Unfortunaltely I cannot start a Metaverse game with Dark Avatar:

"Your serial number is not registered. You must register your serial number to play the metaverse." (Screenshot)

TotA works fine and automagically connects to my Metaverse account. How am I supposed to register DA?

Btw, Dark Avatar in Endless Universe was patched to 2.02, DA here in my Ultimate Edition comes patched to 2.01. Anything wrong with that?

Try deleting your sig.bin file in the DA program folder, then opening it via the launcher and clicking on change serial?

I'm positive there was only one 2.x update for DA, and IIRC EU shipped with a different version number for TA that didn't show up elsewhere in the system, so it's probably mostly a visual difference, designed so the servers can keep track (for whatever reasons they need to).

Edit-Yup, my DA is 2.01 as well.

Thanks Sole Soul, good to know 2.01 is the final DA patch!

However I tried reinstalling after cleaning up Endless Universe leftovers and then I also tried deleting sig.bin which allowed me to enter my account information and serial again.

After that I did it once again folowing the procedure Nakor (Stardock) suggested to fix TotA-Metaverse problems (that I don't have, mine worked right from the beginning).

  1. More/better fix to make sure all HKCU settings keys are set properly from registration:

Start / Run / regedit.exe (will request elevation)

Delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Settings

Erase C:\ProgramData\Stardock\GC2UL\sig.bin (will request elevation)

May need to remove the sig.bin from ProgramData\Stardock\Twilight instead.

Run the GalCiv2\Twilight\GC2TwilightoftheArnor.exe and enter your Stardock account information and serial when prompted.

This will update the registry keys in HKCU that you just removed as well to cache the user credentials the Metaverse login is expecting.

Didn't help, TotA-Metaverse still works, DA (as well as DL) doesn't.
