I'm considering getting Demigod - Is it any good?

Hullo, I saw Demigod on sale from Steam - It looks interesting, but is it newbie-friendly? How big is the community? Anything I should know?

Well, some people seem to complain about the lack of tutorial, but from my personal experience back when I first started, the game is very simple in terms of controls, so that makes it very newbie friendly in my opinion. Nor are there any mechanics that really make you sweat or jump out of your seat to succeed in.

Yet at the same time the game is complex enough to provide an engaging experience. I can spend hours in it no problem, even in singleplayer, because of how addicting the gameplay is.

And the community appears to be growing by the day now that it's appeared on Steam.

very fun game, but i dont reccomend the actual multiplayer experience before you played single player  for at least 1 week

Yes its an awesome game. Some of us have played 1,000s of matches its that good.

BUT as visca said, make sure you play through the single player on a few characters, or your your get totally destroyed which will be less fun.

Now is the perfect time to start playing the game now that everyone is buying it on steam. So you will be playing with alot of noobs learning the game just like you.

I may come to play should the opengames prove there to be enough players.

It's a decent and fairly addictive game.  I've had several online matches and the Steam community so far has been fun and inviting.  Lots of people are helping each other get the hang of it.  For under 7 bucks, it's worth a try.

Good game. But theres somethings that people dont like to talk about.

1º The p2p system of this game is worst than anything that i ever experienced. Even on the time of Age iof Empires 2, when we used 56k conection, we had a better latency/delay/lag, BUT when you learn how to manage it and see who is going to lag, you can have at least a low spike game. But it's NEVER totally clean.

2º Most lobby game are password protected. The communit on the game is bad and don't want new players on it, so get ready to be discriminated.

3º You NEED to download mods to make this game work fine.

4º I think that the developers don't give a damn for this game, so it will not have updates anymore, just cdommunit updates(which are awesome)

5º Don't think this is like dota, it's not.

1. This issue has been never avoided and has been talked about a lot...

2. How can there be talk of discrimination when the majority of people whos playing  are newbies?

3. its not a must, game works just fine without them.

4.Kinda true

5. Why wud it be like dota? :)

Oh no. Download the mods are the way to go. Specially the UI ones. Since the interface is so bad, but so bad that it can be compared to the lag on the game, you must have the UI mods. Tryed the AI improvement and Its insane how rich they are and how agressive they are with flags, so it can be very challenge playing against AI.

Skull, 90% of those password protected games are news playing with their friends.

I dare to disagree. IMHO the interface is great especially for new players. You get the most important information at glance without being overhelmed. The extra information from the UI mod is more helpful for experienced players. I personally dont like the interfaces of other MOBAs like LoL as they seem to take quite a lot of screen space and they take quite some time to get used (even the location of the minimap on the top is more convenient than having it at the bottom).

Why do you need to use your mouse on your hp or mana bar to see how much you have? THats retard and wastes your time.

Why you can't see team mates gold and and mana? WH? Theres no explanation for that.

The interface is shit sadly.

yesssssssssssssssssssssssss

superfun moba game, if there was a bigger player base it would probably replace League of Legends as my "most favorite game right now"

This would be one thing that should have made it into the vanilla version. This being said, it's more of a feature pro players would benefit of.  Those players who see at a glance how much hitpoints they are having, checking enemies hitpoints and knowing that the other player will have to sigil first and die when not retreating even if theirs no hitpoints difference. One important thing about a function like that is that it does not need any screenplace and therefore is not distracting. Demigod clearly follows an "less is more" approach regarding the interface while other Mobas have a more cluttered interface showing information that is not necessarily needed but taking screen space. The basic interface still is very similar to the interface of RTSs Dota is based on and people got used to it. I personally think that you do not need that much screen space for vital information in a MOBA compared to RTSs (sctructures and units to build, commands for different units, status of different buildings/units etc.).

The Demigod interface does show the most vital information except for maybe my own specific hp (and I dont like the HP bars above heads at all; if you look at LoL for example you get only a number of bars. Why they not showing exact HPs?).

Please tell me why this information is a vital information that should take extra screen space? There is no reason why you have to see this info other than a game desing (not interface) option. Not having this information about your team mates actually requires communication between the team (I never assume everyone got the mod so I type in things like "oom" or "5k" if we're close to giants). With this information you need less communication. In my opinion this is more about game design with having a light weight interface in mind (always asking: is this extra information vital? will the game be less fun without this information? What are the gameplay differences? Do these differences impact fun?

I'd really like to hear why? Is there vital information you dont get at a glance? Is it hard to distinguish between items (well have to admit that artifact shop and item shop look to similar). If you want to look at non vital information do you have to take unnessecary steps got get to it (e.g. 2 clicks instead of 1). Are menus hard to grasp, not readable or hard to understand, giving not enough/too much information? Is the information sorted usefully (e.g. do you understand quickly how items are sorted in the shop? I for one really dont like the shop and item interface of LoL). I do not think that Demigods interface really lacks in these areas, I rather think that it does a really good job in showing players vital information, giving them quick access to not vital information while leaving lots of screen space for the actual game instead of its statistics.

While I disagree with the tone Skull is using to criticize the interace, I have to agree with some of the criticism, especially the ones concerning the mana of team mates.

I think it's vital to show the mana of your team mates since it automatically helps stream line communication. Team members' mana and gold should, I think, be also considered basic information that shouldn't require text chat to inform team mates about (especially when a hectic team fight ensues or is about to ensue).

Other issues I have with the interface is not helping me to auto target myself quickly for defensive spells. It's unwieldy to have to mouse through the mess of units to select myself (or a team mate for that matter) as a target.

Considering the fact that Dota itself (pardon the reference) was around for so long as an available case study, such interface decisions (or lack thereof) leaves much to be desired. If they were intentional in any way, then consider me unenlightened to their rationale. I can only imagine that they simply ran out of time, and such polish got long abandoned on some feature wish list.

The creative concepts are what really make the game stand out.

Just take The Rook and The Torchbearer for a few examples, given their background stories and abilities.

Too bad so few players care about creative content in games nowadays...

if by creative content u mean a story told by some big shot actor for 30 seconds while u stare at a stone in the begining of the game or the 5 line backround on each character then i dont know what ur talking about.

the game is 100% multiplayer.

multiplayer is full of bugs.

MP sucks, game is dead.

graphics are good if u play full hd res and 16Q AA.

I have played now 6 games and never got discoed.

Only 2 games had low lag, due to solo player playing from Mars I presume.

Game is great, nice, interesting, doesnt overbear you with options, has great older players to help.

I thought all games are pw protected, and then all of a sudden, I went streight through 4 games and lobby always had 3+ non protected games.

This game is a jewel.

I love it, personally. Both with friends only and online matches. I play maybe 50%-50% arranged friend games and open online games. I have 4-5 friends that play this and sometimes we get together for slugfests against eachother in 2v2, sometimes we host/join a nice 3v3 or 4v4. Most of the time we play with other people though. I really love this game to bits, in spite of the shoddy netcode. I tried LoL for a week and left disgusted. The community is a cesspit of elitistic knowitalls with nothing better to do than scream "cunt" and "fuckning noob!" at new players.

Was on LOL.

Playing eve online - which has a special type of community (and a huge base of players).

Comparing that, I fully agree what you say on lol community.

People in DG are far nicer. Though you need tostudy a bit on all DGs and builds if you want to skip looses to AI at start.

And Im starting to amass friends to a cause....giving DG left and right.

Steam forbiddin me buying bunch of 4packs is a hindrance, but.....its going further.

I wish we got DG II and a smartphone/ipad app......that would be awsome....

(are there any stardock/GPG ears around?)
