Version Compatibility

I have "Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity" and my friend has the first original "Sins of a Solar Empire" game from 2008.  Are these two versions compatible to play against each other via LAN or Internet - assuming that we play the first "Sins of a Solar Empire" game and they are fully patched to latest level?

The reason I ask is because the booklet that came with Trinity makes mention that many changes to the original game have been made so I was just wondering about compatibility.

Thanks.

If you both have bought the game legitimately, you should be able to register the CD keys on Impulse (now Gamestop) and then update the games, and then play on LAN or on ICO.

Yes, if you both have your game fully up to date.

Note that you'll have to load the original Sins of a Solar Empire---SinsofaSolarEmpire.exe (aka "Vanilla") unless your friend has the expansions.

(aka "Vanilla")
End of DirtySanchezz's quote

Really I think we've been using the term Vanilla far to liberally. Vanilla should refer only to the unmodded game of all expansions, original Sins would be the better term to use for the game without expansions.
