Idea: Salvage

I was thinking about Survey ships.  They're extremely useful in the early-to-mid game but end up just sitting around uselessly after that.

Then I thought about all that wreckage floating in space in the aftermath of a clash of mighty fleets.  Hmm.

Wouldn't it add an interesting tactical element to the game if destroyed fleets left remains that could be salvaged for money and maybe even technology by a survey vessel?

Survey Ships aren't totally useless, you can upgrade them to get all those fancy extra hitpoints to be useful in battle.

Also, on DA and TA, anomalies regenerate after a while, so keeping survey ships around isn't exactly a waste.

Okay, useful to know about the Survey ship, thank you.

It wasn't purely to find a use for the Survey ship, I think it would add an interesting dimension to the later game...

Well, it's extraordinarily unlikely to happen. GalCiv 2 may never be updated again, and if it is, it will likely be to fix bugs and make minor tweaks - not add a new mechanic, even a relatively small one like that.
