X-Races Mod

Hi,

I'm searching for a mod with the races of the X3-Game. Is there any mod with them?

LOL I remember asking about this MONTHS ago

There are a couple of guys trying to get the models in for a "best of sci-fi" mod, but it will certainly take a while for them to get finished up, let alone release a public mod with them.

There may be legal issues with it as well.

Some other X3 mods for other games got shut down on cease and desist orders I've heard.  So our mod will be kept on the DL ;)

But yes, the SotC team will be putting X3 races into our mod.  But again, it will take quite a while to reach final release, So if your any good with modding, play testing or idea slinging... volunteer!

You also have the scale the models down and also CUT back the poly count on the models if you import them. Granted you can obtain permission first before you even attempt this or you'll have legal issues. I know of one mod that uses several Boron ships and that would be 7deadlysins mod, and from dan told me he obtained permission to use the models before showing them off or releasing a playable version of the mod.

I'm trying to get x3 ships into my Sci fi at War mod, using them as planet milita and pirates. I just love the Split, they are one of the coolest alien species outthere. It's actually my next step but I've hit a snag. I need someone to show me the process of taking them out of x3 and coverting them to Sins. If you've played X3 and visited their forums, you will know that there are ships in . Xsp format you can add with Crycows plugin in manager, Terran Vallhala anyone etc. It's one of these I would like to add to Sins. My main source of advice has kind of, well deserted me, gone off done his own thing.

As myfisto is currently tied up with his own project. Can anyone else tell me what programmes I need and the method of extracting X3 ship models for use in Sins. Cheers.

I'm not familiar with it but here's the usual index for that sort of stuff direct from the egosoft forums.

also just a quick note, ask for permission to use models from any X game otherwise you might find yourself with a cease and dissist order from ES. You can simply do this by PMing or emailing someone over at ES.

I sent you the guide already  :annoyed:

Search for "A Monkeys Guide" + models + X3 or go back in your posts to find the link.

as long as this is considered fan art and not sold but given freely I couldn't see any legal issues at all.  Honestly the X developers should be enjoy the free publicity to be considered a part of the "best of Sci Fi" mod.  It seems they are improving the game along RTS lines with X-rebirth, but then it still will be a completely different game and not really a direct competitor creating "unfair competition" between sins and the X series.

Also the little factor in that they would sue a "little guy" gaining them little to no cash at all and you could just declare bankruptcy along the lines of the now bankruptcy friendly economy to get out of it.  They would have to find a way to tie this to benefitting stardock and ironclad, which would be impossible since no connection aside from a piece of fan art could be made.

Don't be afraid of the legalities when trying to make something cool, as in the end you will have a lot of options.

@myfisto, I tried to read it but i couldn't get my head around it. @sareth01, I would drop them a line. I believe they support the modding of their games.

You'd be surprised how BUTT HURT they get, it's always good to ask in advance to save you a headache later down the road trust me.

Danman used several Boron models from X3 and he EVEN went so far as to ask the ES staff to use them before making any beta or alpha public.
