Thanks to harpo, I have almost completed the TEC Beta bomber. Textures are fixed, model has tangents, 2 exhaust, 2 missiles ports, above, aura, center points, glossiness set to 16.

Wondering if
Should we give it defensive weapons or just missles (Weapon-0).
Someone wants to write an entity for this that I can include with the file set.
Supply some separate sounds and icons and strings.

Just the basic entity file for the bomber, not really creative.

7DS did rename all the fighter/bombers for all races.  This is the one for the TEC Bomber.

I disagree- but I do think that the old one looked quite epic. It does fit somewhat better with the TEC fighter- but then again, I really like the new(er) TEC bomber.

If this one got the same kind of graphical makeover (nothing suggested/intended) that the TEC bomber currently benefits from, I think it'd be serious competition.

@OP- my suggestion is to try making a smaller missile effect, but then have it spawn a larger number of said effects- the larger number (and smaller size) of the old TEC bomber's missile pods would fit such a firing behaviour better. At least IMO.

Created the Launch & Return icons. Thinking about research icons now. Maybe 1 set to get the ship and another to increase missile power. Maybe call it a gunship along with the other 2 bEta models I could make a small mod to introduce all 3.

I think it should have a second weapon for fighter defence. Maybe another mesh with a back seat firing at pursuers.

That is not an in-game shot. It's a Softimage screenshot with the -cl texture only. Just like these...

Missiles are fine to fire on fighters.  Antiveryheavy typed weapons aren't that great vs verylight armor: DamagePercentBonus:ANTIVERYHEAVY:VeryLight 0.5; but half damage is better than none.

    CanFireAtFighter TRUE -yeah!

I was thinking more of a mini gun for fighters and the missiles for heavy ships. Not to sure yet as I have little experience at writing entities. Keep up the suggestions though please.

Maybe an upgrade that switches out the mesh with one that includes the anti-fighter gun and another to upgrade missiles?

I can also extend  the bottom or top wings and either add guns or booster or quick turn engines.

The design as is looks pretty badass, reminds me a bit of the Viper and SW's Assault Gunboat in fact. I dare say that extending the wings would take away from the overall sleekness of the design.

Also, I'm curious, how exactly do you take those screenshots in Softimage?

Maximize the Camera window and use the [S] key to rotate and zoom to suit.

Then use the [PrtScr] key to take a screen shot.
[Alt + PrtScr] will just capture the selected window.

 

Open my image editor and use "Crop" to cut the edges to the desired size.
 

I use the "Cut" feature with "Selected Colour Region" and select the grey area and then select Erase.

Then save to .PNG which is a high quality web image that allows the background to show through the cleared areas.

Upload to Imageshack and copy the Direct Link to the forum.

 

For the image in the OP I have a scene with a skycube which I can use when rendering. Then follow the above steps to crop it out and upload.

If you are rendering, you can use the Render toolbar [3] and use the "Preview" which opens a new window with a Save image option in the menu bar. I save as .PNG

myfist0 I like the idea of a 50mm vulcan gun on the nose, but doubt that altering the fins or wings will help the design, but from what I have read about the mere 30mm vulcan on a warthog if it fires for too long the aircraft would fall out of the sky due to recoil from the gun.

I put a rear gun on mine, and lowered its missile's DPS. I also increased the health slightly. Eventually I'll try to get my hands on the old advent bomber and maybe make a new vasari one. (Vasari's only fighters were bleh)

And graphically speaking, the new(er) TEC bomber still looks the best. But lining up the old bomber and the fighter together, you can tell that they were modeled to be cohesive in design.

I like that gun in the nose and posted entity file that requires 'research_weapondamage_autocannon2' for the nose chain-gun to work.  That autocannon could always be 'lasertech'
