Converting .skp-files to xsi

Hi,

I'd like to import a model from sketchup (google model program) to softimage to import this to sins. Unfortunately, my first trials have missed their aim and so I'm asking here.

I'd like to import this model here to softimage: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=f3679d936c647d1d663d0a884a3a203d&prevstart=0

First I exported the file via sketchup pro (demo version) into .xsi format. Then I imported this file via softimage. It seemed as if this would function (a bar with the importing process appeared and finished, and there was no error request or mini dump). BUt no model appeared!

Can somebody help me?

I have managed to get a SketchUp model into XSI before but it's hit and miss.  I exported the model from SketchUp Pro (I believe) as an .xsi model or a .obj file.  I have found that any one particular format isn't going to necessarily work for all models coming out of SketchUp.  Sometimes it takes a little experimentation to get something that will import reasonably well into XSI.\

I haven't attempted this in some time though, so I can't really give you any tips on it at this time.

Well I tried to act like in the tutorial, but same problem. Nothing appeared in XSI.

If somebody could convert the file successfully in XSI and load it up somewhere I can download it he will earn a lot of Karma from me :D

Very few on this forum have used sketchup. When you import to XSI does anything show up in XSIs explorer (press 8)? Make sure all the fields are expanded, explorer sceen shot would be nice.

Textures don't go over easily, you should have to do it in XSI for it to look nice.

I model ONLY in Sketchup.

okay i use alot of models foprm sketcheup that people have made and put out for use if you want to get it into XSI and this i s how i do it

1. make sure there are no blue boxes when you select the model ig there are explode them

2 convert everything to a polygon i believe it was anyways its on the drop down menu when you right click with the model selected

3.export tcollada .DEA format and it should work good luck

export to collada- .dae

get rid of all groups and components,

then rename the .dae to .zip and extract the mesh folder.

Textures are difficult to connect over.

Isn't that correct?

End of KrdaxDrkrun's quote

the third one isnt that isnt what i do

i import it directly from the .dea into xsi and go from there

The Frigate_PsiLight in this explorer is directly under the Scene_Root. First save the scene so you can revert changes. Not totally sure but try to drag and drop the meshes onto the Scene_Root so that they are not under Scene_Root\Model.

If you get to see the meshes you might want to merge them all to a single model.

You'll see I have no experience with modding, and so i have three questions:

1. How can I get the Frigate_PsiLight file? Have I to use the convert xsi and how can I convert them?

2. do you mean that I have to replace the "frigate_psilight" with my own model?

3. I'm not sure if you answered directly at my question (if I just misanderstanded you, pleas forgive me ;) ) : how can I make all the meshes visible in the modtool?

Not a problem

The explorer is just like windows folders. Lets say you have a program that looks for an image in C:\My Pictures but you move the picture to C:\My Pictures\MyDog the picture will not display. You have the same with Scene_Root. The mesh needs to be directly under the Scene_Root and not buried deeper under Scene_Root\Model. That picture was just an example of the model being directly under the Scene_Root.

Just try to select 1 of the meshes under Model and hold the left mouse and drag the mesh on top of Scene_Root. It should change the meshes directory location in the scene.

Can you save and upload the scene to a free file hosting site?

I tried and failed to get any mesh to show. I give up on sketchup help. Good luck
