Hosting ethics

For example, a certain player joins a game hosted by me. Now, I happen to think (for instance) this particular player is a stat whore, a liar, and a rude arrogant asshole. Do I have a... well, moral right, as a host, to kick him? Yeah, given the small size of our community, refusing to play with player X or Y may lengthen waiting times (as if they weren't long enough). But that's not the point. The hypothetical problem I've described is ethics/netiquette-related.

Lots of people kick for little or no reason, so I suppose in the case you describe above you can kick me :)

Last night I got kicked from a game and called a f@@@ing moron because I did not go down and join the Dark side. My pointing out that there was no open slot on either side for anyone to move did not seem to deter the host either. I was a moron, and that was final.

I hope host's nick wasn't Darth :D

The host has a right to use whatever settings they want and allow whoever they want to play, etc. If someone is more than likely going to harass someone in your game, exploit, or rage quit, I don't know why you wouldn't kick them even if everyone had to wait a bit longer.

A few things that folks in dg tend to take offense at:

  1. The obvious team stack with a host yelling READY!
  2. Very unique game settings without any heads up (though players should always check the settings when they join)
  3. Kicking without any reason provided
  4. Hosting all welcome games and kicking players

Anyway, blahblahblah says me.

Hosting all welcome games and kicking players

This bit particularly grieves me. We are a small community and I can see why. 'We' treat new players like the brown stuff in general.

If a game says 'no noobs' or 'skilled' or '>150 games', then fine people should read better. But kicking noobs for joining a game they have been invited too is just encouraging them to go play SC2 instead.

Its not hard to balance with noobs, just get another noob, or give the other team an AI, and leave AIGold on normal. if we don't all make alot more of an effort to play with noobs waiting times are going to get alot longer from here.

Those stat whores need to maintain their obviously suspect 65%++ stats somehow. And I say obviously suspect because if every game was balanced no way would so many people have such uber stats.

True enough. I get most of my losses in two situations: (1) strong player (say, doggu, Zen_God, etc.) + me + noob vs 3 decent players; (2) 'overrated' players on my team (I have a list of players I won't play on the same team ever again: they all have good stats, are experienced and are nice guys, overall, so I won't go public with it -- however, in my experience, they either feed like crazy vs real top-tier guys or do not understand basic game dynamics/have low map awareness).

However, I see no harm playing pro + 2 noobs vs pro + 2 noobs or 2 pros + noob vs 2 pros + noob. Especially if the pros are more into educating the noobs, than into shamelessly farming them. Such games are somewhat unpredictable (I've seen some  cautious/unkillable noobs, for example) and are decided by the relative level of 'noobiness' of the noobs attached to the pros, but they are fair as far as balance is concerned.

I'd say 65%+ win rate over 100 games is either a sign of uber-professionalism or of a tendency to play vs weaker teams only. I'm acquainted with all the currently active pro players that are online whenever I am (who gives a damn about bartek's 'low' 40% or about ppapanek's 'suspicious' 70%?), but sometimes one of the veterans returns and I don't know how to take those 69% or something.

For all of those wondering who this post is about. It's about me. IN1 kicked me for no given reason, I did not say a single word to him. He then added me and started to harass me with private messages, when i asked him to stop it, he continued. When i gave him a final warning to stop harassing me he finally did.

You've recognized yourself by the description (a stat whore, a liar, and a rude arrogant asshole), I presume? No wonder, but don't be so self-centered. The world does not revolve around you. This post is not about you, it's about hosting ethics in general. It was inspired by you in a way, yes. Here, due credit given.

IN1 kicked me for no given reason

Man... Are you a pathologically compulsive liar or something? You have that screenshot, we both have that log. I've given you a reason all right: I happen to think you are a liar, a stat whore, a smurf, and a rude arrogant idiot. You want to make it public? No problem. Please pay attention: your joining my games is not appreciated, and I shall continue helping you out every time you join. That's all you have to know, really: don't join when I host :)

Nah i`ve recognized that you have some sort of affection for me, so your posts are all about me. I am what the world revolves around, NOT YOU. so recognize and respect my fuckin conglomerate. AND i will join when you host, and I`ll say it right now your lobby will crash. EVERYYYYY SINNGGGLLEEE TIME. Oh and ban me. As long as this game costs 5$ and your hosting when im on. Count on not playing.

I spoke to a couple people in lobby today, and we all agreed to boycott you. They all said you are a whiney little bitch who cant play worth shit. and honstly... they started the convo not me. lmfao. so just shows how loved you are in this game. just gtfo faggot. no one wants you here. even these guys who`s asses you kiss, they think your a joke. 95% of my posts are about Sed/QoT/Erb builds, so they are pretty neutral, I think :)

They all said you are a whiney little bitch who cant play worth shit.

Eh, not so sure about it :) While surely not the greatest player in the universe (don't have the necessary experience, first and foremost), I'm actually good with Sed and QoT and pretty decent with Erb. But I assume you are lying again, so...

Ah, and I recognize the style :) Pacov refused to disclose your identity, but you've done a great job disclosing it yourself. An asshole will remain an asshole even as a smurf.

think for a min... and just discuss plz... I don't want to shut anyone down here publicly, but i will.

Pacov, there is nothing more to discuss here. I've got my constructive replies from King, Split and yourself, now it ceased to be informative, as you can see. Please lock it, and that's it.
