Master of Orion 2 downloaded, but game is very slow.

I downloaded MoO2 from Impulse recently, and the game has problems with intermittent stuttering and pauses which really slows down gameplay to annoying levels.  Is there a way to tweak this?  Has anyone else seen this?

Also, when alt+tabbing, it reverts to windowed mode, and I can't make it maximize back to full screen.

It is much more responsive on my 6 year old laptop running it from the original CD than it is on my desktop.  I'm hoping that maybe there's a setting somewhere in the version from Impulse that can be tweaked?

Hardware:

Mobo: P5N-E SLI

CPU: Core 2 Duo E8400

Video Card: 8800GT

Memory: 4GB

OS: XP2 SP3

Also, THANK YOU, Stardock, for adding this game to your lineup.  This is the game that got me hooked to PC gaming, and I enjoy still enjoy it immensely.

Dunno about the slow-downs, but I think that CTRL-ENTER or SHIFT-ENTER might get you back to full screen.

Are you talking, specifically, about multiplay tactical battles? I vaguely recall the slowdowns there were never resolved; however, you can avoid the issue by choosing 'strategic' battle types.

You can try running it without dosbox via the other executables orion140.exe works best for me. The sound is a little messed up but I've had that problem since 96 lol. The only show stopping bug is it usually crashes right before it shows the final score for the game. I usually just start it back up in dosbox and replay the last turn if I want to see it. I think the AI gets a little harder this way as well ¯\(o_°)/¯
