Conquest frontier wars mod

does anyone else interested in this?

conquest frontier wars is a space RTS game released in 2001. The terrans (humans) are at war with the insect mantis and the terrans halfway along the campaign aquire an ally called the Celereons(energy beings in robotic suits) it is very similar to Sins and is like a precoursor to it. i dont have any skill to make models and texture them, etc but im wondering of anyone else will some skill was intersted in bringing this game's content into sins.

Celereon base and units

mantis tiamat supercarriers next to terran battleship

Do you know what format the models are in? Sins uses .mesh and a lot of games the format needs a program to convert.

the game is an old one. the model for all the planets and ships and other props are either called .3db or .cmp

have you ever heard of this game?

I used to play this game a lot.  It was absolutely superb, to certain extent it had almost everything i wanted from space RTS...especially the map divided into those star systems, which gave you a feeling of actually planning on grand scale, conquering enemy worlds and traversing vast distances...i always wanted to Star trek armada to adopt this style or Conquest set in Star Trek/Babylon 5 universe...Sins was the first game since then, which reminds me of conquest...though it is bit more complex...

One thing i cannot forget was the great orchestral score for the game...truly unique and breathtaking, i loved the "naval theme" playing in menu to bits... and those funny Mantis unit voice over: "Ready we aaaare!...or "Thrusters ooon!" and Human Dreadnoughts "Preparing broadside!" LOL Happy times....

what was your favourite race? I used to play for Celareons, cause i liked their shiny water-like ships (Aurora FTW) and their Defences - Starburst and Proteus... I was really sad when they cancelled the second game...did you happen to try alpha demo of Conquest 2? There was a new race called Vyrium and they had a planetkiller! It even had a fantastic animations of the firestorm moving across the planets surface leaving wasteland in its wake...i was so excited and then so dissapointed!

Anyway, regarding the mod, i do not think it is possible to use the models from original game and even if it was, they are quite low poly...if someone was about to make the mod, he had to make the models from the scratch... i could offer a help here, cause i have some modeling skills (made the Centauri Vorchan for TobiWans B5 mode), but unless someone does the coding stuff with entities, it is quite pointless....

if you thought sins was the only example of that type of gameplay, you are quite wrong, Hegemonia was I think a closer match, it came out in 2002, an awsome game, in many ways a precursor to sins (almost like sins was a sequel to this game) some of the things the game got right:

the 3rd D, it had true 3d movement like HW

the sense of a breathing comerce underneath what you where doing (civie ships, salvage teams, kinda got the feeling like there were actualy people trying to live in your war)

managing you empire was acualy HARDER than the war part, whole planets could just up and die from one disaster or another if you wern't diligant

absolute bleeding edge GFX for it's time (ship designs look as if they were riped right out of the movies, again for it's time)

but most importantly........ABSOLUTLY THE MOST BEUTIFULL DEATH FX, EVER, with out question, perfectly cought the cinimatic quality of ship explosions before everyone went the route of blinding lights to cover bad fx up

seriously, the under apreciation of this game is an outright crime

but in the terms of conquest, it was certantly inovative for it's time, but it never really felt like an empire to me, more like an exuse to string maps together, but I would certantly play a mod for it

lol, judging from youtube videos its graphics are as good as, if not better than, sins'...kind of depressing considering the 6-year gap between their releases

and on 3d, does gameplay act like its on a 2d plane like in sins, or does the z-axis actually matter?

ok i will upload the models and textures tonight

there was also a forth race called the vyruim who were basically reptillians. but the second game never came out, only the demo.

i look forward to this project.

i have uploaded all the models and textures to my filefactory account. they are from the vyruim uprising demo. The demo contains all the files from conquest but with added vyruim ships and platforms.

http://www.filefactory.com/file/b3g4c64/n/Conquest_ships.rar

This file contains the 3 main factions (mantis, terrans and celereons) ships and platforms that would be good for adding into this mod. ive catagorised all the ships and platforms models into folders. This file does not contain the textures. the textures are contained in the other file.

http://www.filefactory.com/file/b3g4fa2/n/Conquest_objects_and_textures.rar

This is the entire set of models and textures of the game.

your are wrong in my opinion the first space game i have ever played was o.r.b of world resources base 3d graphics no system travel but the mining the ship designs the races and the maps were all excellent there where 5 but only 2 where ever playable and the other 3 had only a limited number of ships came out in 2001 by strategy first got cfw shortly after orb

no i dont know how to import them or edit them. maybe we have to google it or something.

we might have to end up making the models from scratch using screenshots from the game

Any idea what we use to open these .3db files? Max can't make head or tail of em.
End of RS250-Squid's quote
have you looked at a program called milkshape?

the reason I suggest this is a google search for 3db 3d pointed out freelancer used the same extension name and milkshape was appently the only program that could export to freelancer.

checked the mods the didn't change much the celarons have a carrier that  looks like a trireme my costume one makes the aourara have missiles form the celaron defense platform and the other make the dreadnought have a ion cannon to kill platforms kinda fun to play with

ive downloaded milkshape and ive installed the nessasary plugins. when i import the conquest models into milkshape its comes up with a message saying 'could not find vmesh library node'

it looks we might have to make the models from scratch. it this is going to be our course of action i will take heaps of screenshots of the different models in conquest using one of its mod tools to view the models.

reply back to this if you want to take this path.
