If you need more detail, please inform me.
BTW, I have not had one crash playing this game.

Me neither.
What are your system specs? I will, like you, make a broad, sweeping statement;
Your machine is a piece of cr4p. 1000's of us are running galciv without problems.
Please post specifics, the GC dev team and community as a whole, are exceptionally helpfull and supportive, but with posts like yours, they have no reason to be.

1. The directx version that came with galciv is junk. It's not their fault. It's microsoft's. Go to www.microsoft.com and immediately download directx 9a. It should eliminate your problem.
Also, check after every install your directx version. Some idiot installers will install an obsolete version right over what you have without you even knowing it.
2. Turn off your in game music and sounds. You can just throw a cd in the drawer and play it instead. And it uses less memory to do so!!! You do not need your game disk in to play.
3. Eliminate all tsr's and background programs.
4. There is a memory leak in some early versions. Upgrade via stardock central (program is on your game disk) immediately.
5. Update your video drivers and your sound drivers. Especially if you have a soundblaster live card.
Hope these help. Cannot be of any more help without specifics.
Hally not come back for helping tips from nice GalCiv playing peoples. Bobo think maybe Hally not really want help but just liking making big mouth noises. Bobo hope him wrong. Bobo see this on other forums too muchtimes. Maybe Hally go away for awhile and forgot to come back for checking up things. That too bad as Hally cant play great game if not getting helping tips.
Bobo, is most wise. Now if only Wampyre could understand your wisdom and let you out of the basement.
Bobo say Pontius nice peoples for making sayback that Bobo need more out from cellar times. That ok. Bobo get out enough. Also, cellar not so bad.
Bobo go now. wampyre come. Bobo now pretend him just dumb ape.
Anyway (if you pardon the expression), I was playing a game last night that kept crashing to the desk top. After a few reloads the game was crashing to the desk top on start up?
After a restart all seemed well . . . but the game data must of been corrupted (or something) because if I tried to reload from a particulart point (i.e. the last auto save) the whole CTD thing would happen all over again. When I loaded a previous auto saved game all was well again, no probs. Not sure what causes these kinda bugs on occasion? :notsure:
Interestingly the dozen combat transports I had heading for an ememys system dissapeared from the game completely . . . kinda like a bermuda triangle thing going on.
Personally I just thing the AI in the game becomes sentient, developes self awarness and then gets really pissed off because its stuck in a pokie little box and is being humiliated! Just a theory . . .
You know I think you have a very valid point. The AI does have personal problems. It may need a bit more love and for sure a bigger box. lmao
Cotal: Could you send that saved game to cbegle@stardock.com or scott@stardock.com? We'll load it up in a debug build and find out what's getting messed up ![]()
Hally: Hate to keep prodding you for info, but in the end that's the only way to find out what's going wrong with your version (we have about 10 different test boxes in the office, and never got that kind of constant crashing). OS is actually pretty important (the Bink sdk we use, and even DirectX, do things differently on win9x vs win2000 vs winXP) so if you could post your system specs (we already have cpu and ram, so just the video card and os will do :)). Also, could you include the version you're playing did you upgrade using any of the available patches, upgrade with SDC, or are you playing straight out of the box? You can send this to the above emails, or post right back here if you want. We'll try and get your problem straightened out asap. ![]()
Holly: OK, glad to hear the updated version is working a bit better. A couple places to keep an eye out for crashes....
-Autosaving: Is it crashing after pressing the turn button on a month that the game should be autsaving your progress?
-Uploading to Metaverse: It's weird that disconnecting the internet would solve the problems, but we have had firewall issues when players try to upload their score. If disconnecting the internet solves the random connections throughout the game, I'm even more confused since the game never tries to access the connection except at the beginning of the game and on the upload screen. :notsure:
-Change in Music: The mp3 code we use has know to be funky with certain sound cards. If there's a change in game status that would result in the music changing, perhaps its a sound issue.
-Change in Morality: It shouldn't crash in this situation, but perhaps somethings happening when you're making the transition from neutral to good/evil. The big thing I can think of would be a crash when the interface is swapping images to the good/evil version, but at this point im just grasping at straws ![]()
Hopefully one of these suggestion will lead us to the solution, but the whole "disconnecting internet fixes the issues" thing has thrown me a curve ball, since the game never tries to access it in the middle of a game. We'll just have to see what the hell GalCiv is trying to do on your system
