For fun, make the Torians evil and the Drendins. The only problem I had has the Drendins going from wanting to cuddle me to a few turns later, telling me that their death furnaces don't run themselves.... it was funny.

The evil Torians will tell you that they are considering you for a new cuisine. Haven't had the guts to make the Altarians evil as it's the one AI that tends to give me fits.

And a thing about the Altarians... Netro Mancer? Net Romancer? This must be some reference I just don't get. Or maybe that guy just sits around a computer all day searching through match.com.

I always assumed "Netro Mancer" was based on "Neuromancer." Of course, you can stick anything onto the "mancer" suffix.

Also, to the thread starter: what did your response text say? Once the Yor contacted me while fighting a losing war against the Drengin. Their window read: "We just wanted to say hi." While my response read: "Sorry, but you're probably doomed." Funny.

i have to say the drengin have to be the funniest of the AIs. The ones that are the most boring have to be the Arceans, i dont think they made me chuckle yet. The torians are kinda boring too.

All of the AI will sometimes begin a conversation just to say hello. As you know, the AI sometimes initiates tech trades. Well, if it tries to do this, and you don't have any tech to trade, the alien in question merely says hello.

When the standard reply is something like "Your cause is doomed", the AI in question has asked for your aid, and you aren't friendly with them.

Personally, I would love to have a whole host (or even just a few) different replies to the AI that would actually affect diplomacy. It would be fun to be able to suck up to whomever is most powerful, and insult those who you consider lowly scum!

the torian "did you enjoy the red ball we sent you" message really pissed me off.

i dont remember any "red ball" message. maybe i wasnt really paying attention when they sent it. the alterians at least have the "questionable" holographic movies that they send me

Not quite - the string in question is hard coded into the GalCiv executable file. Not only is it hard coded, but it is hard coded in a specific location next to the string "CryForHelp_%d". As a result, it is definatly a default state

If, however, it desires to exchange technologies but has a problem ocurr, it says "Greetings, Human. We just wanted to open up channels and see if there are any techs you might be interested in trading today." - a completly different message from "Greetings, Human. We just wanted to say Hi.".

If you're friendly with the Torians, they're good, and they're much more powerful than you, their standard greeting becomes something like: "Hello Terran, are you enjoying that large bouncy red ball we sent you as a gift? We thought it would amuse you. Watch the red ball bounce!"

I had to look at that message a lot in my most recent game, as the Torians were way ahead of everyone else and I was trying to ingratiate myself for the alliance win.

Yeah, the Torians have pissed me off in diplomatic sessions. One time when they had a much higher diplomatic skill than me, they said something like "OK now concentrate really hard, and speak slowly into the microphone. What would you like to talk about?"

Got me so mad I sent a fleet of Dreadnoughts and eliminated them in about 6 months (they only had 4 colonies at the time).

wow, i never new the torians could be so harsh. i never had them say that to me yet.
