And for the love of god, at what point in DDO are you allow to rape a mentally disabled girl? I mean seriously?

Although I have no use for violent games, or for that fact any games at all, games do not cause a person to kill someone, mental disorders or just plain being a bad person do.  I feel very sorry for the girl and her family though, she certainly did not deserve that. :pout:

The reporter, or commentator?, is an idiot.. Blurting out Dungeons and Dragons, but not naming any gaming title or company specifically. Its the worst in sensationalistic journalism without any ethical integrity. No where is there an actual reference to DDO or other D&D brand titles. Further the lack of detail and content are purely an effort to rile people up without informing on anything news worthy regarding the public safety or how parents should be keeping a closer watch on what their kids are up to.

Also, DnD? What is this the fracking 80's

And, because this once again bear repeating

Where in DDO, are you allowed to rape a mentally disabled 16 year old?

Edit: Okay I just read on destructoid, that it was actually worse than how it sounded, and it's more clear now, for starters he apparently killed her, then raped her, and the DDO connection is not that he played the game, but he went to play the game afterward to put the deed out of his mind, making this guy the sickest fuck to ever exist and with luck, they won't kill him and merely give him multiple life sentences so he can die in prison knowing what he did to that poor girl.

I don't care who you are, or what you've played. 99.999% of us can cope with playing games and avoid raping and murdering people. If you do shit like that, you're just vile.

I don't need to read or see it to know what you mean. Its like saying guns kill. Sure they do but someone needs to pull the trigger. Without that someone the gun is just another thing. Same for video games. It isn't the game, although the content of some leave much to be desired, its the person holding the game controls. Put in the hands of someone who can't tell the difference between fact and fantasy because he and or she lacks enough common sense and they are no different then the person pulling the trigger. What that one needs is to be strung up by his short hairs while a drunk surgeon does a job on him with a rusty scalpel.

yeah this is crap.  to me if games actually made people do this, then you would have MILLIONS of people raping and murder everyday.  oh, but 1 guy out of millions did it, games must be to blame!  well, if you look at this scientifically then it would immediately get thrown out.

The problem here is just a case of logical thinking.  Logically, we as a society, attempt to find a motivation (cause) for tragic events (effect), however when dealing with people who are truly mentally ill, at times there is truly no logic.  So, we, as a society, invent a cause, no matter how illogical it may be.  This time it appears a journalist decided that it sounded logical to assume "violent" video games were to blame.  After the next illogical killing the same journalist might rack it up to guns/violent tv/violent music or whatever simply because the writer needs some kind of "logical" justification.

The idea that inanimate objects can "do" or cause anything (at least physically) is absolutely ridiculous.  Seems to me that the author of the article is just attempting to start a video game "witchhunt" to be sensational.
