Well, if you want to play Sins on a regular basis, you may want to join the Tunngle/Steam group where we play by direct IP, as ICO is too slow for our taste.

I might be interested.  Do you guys play the pirated version (v1.05) or the updated patched versions?  What's the name of the Sins group on Steam?

We all use original Sins/Entrenchment/Diplomacy, though some of us still have a pirated copy :) you can either add me as masakary_2007 or you can enter the group : Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity.

I already joined the Trinity group as WhippersnapperUT99.  I've never purchased anything from Steam, though, so I can't use the chat functions and whatnot.  Should I keep the Steam program open whenever I'm interested in playing?  Is it a problem if I don't have the chat functions?

Well, we use Steam especially for the chat functions, as we use Direct Ip for connecting to each others game. You could always use Tunngle (google it) as its free and easy to use. But i didn't know that Steam requires a game to be bought in order to be able to chat :-?

Your mention of it is the first I've ever heard of Tunngle.  Does it have a chat functionality?

Yes. Tunngle is a VPN hybrid between Hamachi and Garena, where you have a room for each game with a limited amount of players (200+, so that's not really a problem). It is easy to handle and its chat features are more than sufficient. Go give it a try, it certainly won't bite you :P

How many players play over steam? I'm interested in playing, and I've got a steam account. I logged in through Ironclad tonight and saw about 32 players (although no available games). Is there really a good group together on steam?

There's a group of about 40+ people on STEAM for a group called Sins Trinity or some such.  However, from what I can tell, they never get together and play.  I think your best bet for finding PvP games is going to be the Diplomacy expansion during the North American evening.  Sadly, it's necessary to be patient and wait for games to come up and to fill, but last I checked people were still playing 4v4s and 5v5s.
