Seriously, has anyone unlocked this achievement? I'm eager to find out what it is!
its completely random. It can happen when you colonize or explore a planet.
It makes refernece to something that only the orginal sins players on the forums know anything about

How true, as my memory recalls, being present during the conception of the pink space pony, it occurred in stardocks IRC chat some time in the spring/summer of 2007, I was there , though events at the time are bit fuzzy, I recall constantly asking for stuff in the game (moons and other stuff) , and Zoomba (who works at stardock) said something like "next you will want Space Ponies". 
If you are multiplayer game, if your allies have found space ponies, ask them to desert that planet and then colonize, don't research any of the planetary upgrades but do the exploration (usually if there is an artifact, it will show up after the first level) then re-abandon it back to your ally. If enemy target only that planet only, if you have ships exploring if an enemy has found an artifact, it will show up on your alerts and you can see where it is.
Although you can do the same for a single player game, only don't have any allies, then you can attack any planet at your discretion
lol another way you can do is to create a huge game, and have no other players than yourself and then keep playing it till you find it
what do you mean not the most popular around? I bought the official pink space ponies hat!
