Demigod killed my Gfx card! j/k

So it not only crashes and disconnects and gets the worse out of you with all the shit that can happen during a game, demigod also kills your hardware now!

This is obiously a joke, i just wanted to let you know guys that my graphics card died while playing a demigod game last night. I had been getting some weird ingame-hiccups lately so i guess it was its time had come X( .

Hopefully i can get a repaclement soon, but i'm tempted to try demigod with the graphics chip my i3 CPU comes with, do you think i'll get a reasonable framerate-graphic quality with that?

Oh well x_x

Ugh - that sucks nom.  Regarding the i3 graphics chip, no idea - but definitely worth a shot.  Give it a try and let us know how that goes.  My work laptop can run dg at like 5 fps (eg I tried it once and never again), but hopefully you do quite a bit better.

Another thing - and I'm trying to get as many people as possible to do this - please check out the following thread and use it to configure your network if you have not.  I think alot of the disconnects and crashes are caused by network configuration and noticed a huge improvement myself when I have things configured properly.  The more of us that get setup correctly should result in fewer drops or disconnects.

Funny.

Over the past two weeks I've twice had graphical related issues with DB where I had never had any before.  In both cases, the whole screen went black, with the exception of the bottom bar, mini-map, and damage numbers.  In one case I fixed it by alt-tabbing out and back.  In the other case, alt-tabbing out crashed the game (luckily within the first three minutes).

Nice name change Nom !

Good luck on the video card, hopefully you can get that squared away. I wish i had an extra to send over.

Lets us know if your i3 will work!

Hey thanks guys

I didn't get to try the i3 graphics since i actually have a new card already  , my brother wanted a new one so i bought it for him and i'll use it meanwhile i (hopefully :| ) get the old one replaced. The only problem now is the new one makes so much noise it's driving me crazy  x_x :waaaa: , even at the lowest fan speed setting X|   . OH well :|

You see pacov, i had read the thread you linked, and i was just done resetting my modem-router to factory defaults and disabling its built-in firewall (i was having some issues with settlers 7 online too), right when the gfxcard died.  Hopefully i will now be able to see if there's any difference connectivity-wise :digichet:   Though i think if UPnP is enabled and well implemented both in Demigod and the router there's no need for any port forwarding.  We will see i guess

Jong, this is actually the account i gifted to my brother, but since he doesn't use it i changed it to OMG_nom :-" . I want to conserve my original account name for some reason, kinda afraid of losing it:rolleyes:   .

Although I'm still not sure if i should extend it to the full "OMG_nomilarac", "OMG_nom" is shorter and faster to type to log-in. What do you think? OMG_nom is kinda too short and impersonal, it could even be confused with OMG_mom XO . I'm a living doubt....

If uPnP is enabled and well implemented is the key.  I found it caused me issues as I used that before in dg and had the random drops, etc.  My thought is, the more people with a standardized config the better as we are all pretty much used to seeing random drops in games... i mean, realistically, I could play 8 games tonight and 4 of them will have someone with a random drop (granted some could be rage quits, but there are usually a few "signs" if that's going to happen).  I'd imagine most people's experiences are similar (though granted, on a good night 2/8 games would have a random disconnect).  Anyway, just my 2 cents - but I think setting up port forwarding and following the_monks guide is a good approach.

Hope you get back in action before too long.  And perhaps were forced to buy yourself a nice little upgrade in the process (I hate when that happens :))

I vote for OMG_nomilarac - even thought I would only ever refer to you as nom :)

I'm a little curious now... who makes your graphics cards Saul/Nom?  Wonder if there was a new patch or anything.  I have ati and I know one of their releases caused me some dg headaches several months back.

Well if they have nvidia is shouldn't be a problem because I have never had an issue with mine.

Well, the community has spoken  , OMG_nomilarac will be, thanks for your advice guys

The deceased card was a Nvidia 8800GT, but i highly doubt demigod had anything to do with its death pacov. It was giving some signs of malfunction (some weird freezes-hiccups ingame, specially in settlers 7), it was 20 months old and the heat wave we're suffering around this parts probably didn't help at all x_x .

I do hope i get some kind of replacement from the shop though, since it's still under the standard 2 years guarantee here in EU.

P.S: I forgot, since i reset the router to factory default settings and disabled its built-in firewall i haven't had a single drop or got proxied/NAT with any other player, all this without any port-forwarding. I haven't played that much though, so i'll keep tracking how demigod behaves with these router settings.

Interesting.  What router are you using?  Thanks!
