Tips on creating the optimal single player game

Hello all. I'm pretty new at the game and was wondering what you guys recommend as far as setting up the best single player game. I'm trying to setup a 3v3, myself and 2 random AI hard allies vs 3 random hard.

1)I would rather keep my team intact, so enabling a three allied victory is correct?

2)Also, with pirates enabled it seems the enemy AI only bids against me, forcing me to really spend alot of $ outbidding them. I usually do, and this seems to really hamper the AI's progress. Should I turn pirates off for a better game?

3) My team is TEC, vs Vasari. I read that the AI cant really use the Advent well. True?

4) Any other ideas/tips you guys have I'd appreciate it.

1. Yes, or just put on locked teams and I think this won't be an issue.

2. I'm pretty sure most players play with them off most games anyways.

3. It used to be, I'm not sure if this has been correct with Diplomacy though.

4. Not really, though I wouldn't recommend most new players play against the hard AI without an advantage in quality/quantity of allies, though you know your limits best. Also I recommend playing one of the non-randomly generated maps for larger games, but that is probably just me.
