Demo concern

I haven't bought the full game yet, but playing the demo has raised a concern that would be a major problem if it's an issue in the published game.

I have a game where I'm the dominant civilization in the galaxy, and I'm at war with the Arceans. They only have two planets and I have destroyed their ships and attacked both planets - whatever that means, I just zapped em with my starfighter once each but then couldn't attack them anymore. I have researched Advanced Diplomacy, and on the diplomacy info screen it says they look at my civilization like gods, they acknowledge that I am winning, and whenever I am about to make an offer it says something like "You have an incredible advantage in diplomacy."

However, I can't get a peace treaty. It's not merely that I can't get their technology or planets or tribute in exchange for peace. I can't get peace at all. If I simply offer "peace treaty," it fails. If I offer THEM technology or money or influence and ask for a peace treaty, it fails. I can't get peace short of giving them a planet! What the heck is with this? I hope this isn't a problem in the full game because for obvious reasons I would not want to buy it if I can not actually win when I am supposed to be winning.

Similarly, even with the most advanced diplomacy in the game I cannot seem to ever make a trade with other civilizations unless it's horribly lopsided against me. Even with civilizations who regard me warmly, I cannot trade technologies for each other (despite my "incredible diplomatic advantage") or otherwise gain any concessions whatsoever.

The diplomacy has been updated since the demo build was created, so you may find it better.  However, depending on how long you've been at war, the other race may not be ready for peace, or if you repeatedly attack them and sue for peace, they will stop giving you peace.

If you want their planets, and have military superiority, why don't you just send some Transports or Combat Transports and take the planet by force?
