Will someone help me please

For the life of me, I cannot understand what I am doing so wrong. I have harpo's converter, but honestly, I don't know what to do within, or rather what I am doing period. In entrechment, I have the starwars mod, I like that mode and the soa mod. I want to increase the cap ship level at the start of the game, but nothing I do, even in harpos will open up the entity file so I can read what's there.

Can anyone be clear in telling me exactly how to do this - so I can enjoy my game. I know harpos works, but I don't know what I'm doing. nothing seems to be clear to me. I have the latest version of all SOSE, including the starwars mod and the SoA mod. help me out with this one please guys. I'm on the verge of desperation, and lunitic has be following me!

Use convertdata to convert the specific entity file you want over to plaintext.

Here's what I do:

1)  Create a folder in the Mod directory for whichever version you are playing.  I name my folder Conversion.

2)  Place a copy of the file you want to convert into the folder.

3)  Open up Harpo's SinsTextBinner.

4)  Follow his directions for running the converter.  You should be converting the new folder that you just created in the Mod directory.

5)  Voila!  File converted.

I'm assuming you're struggling with the SOSE files, because I know that we upload all SoA2 files in text format specifically so the general players can have a look and tinker around if they wish.  In regards to your plan, the only way I know of to accomplish this is to actually change the experience needed for capital ship leveling in the gameplay entity file.  Depending on which level you want ships to start at, you change the experience required for that level and all lower levels to 0.  I've never tried it personally, but it should work in theory.

Best of luck.

unfortunatly there is NO way to increase the initial level of caps, the only methods to level caps are, 1 buy the extra levels, 2 kill ships with the caps in the gravitywell.

to use my textbinn gui on a entire mod,

first start the textbin gui,

then select the WANTED conversion to type (default is TXT ie convert to text)

if you have the latest textbin gui then select WHICH file types to convert (which are ALL, entity, mesh, brush and particle)

now in the folder view navigate into the mod's folder in thisexample it would be Mods-entrenchment v1.051/SOGE make sure that the mod folder shows the game info inside it and that the little file window shows a manifest file or other file known to be in the root folder of the mod

then click on the noqw convert this folder button then click on the convert the folder NOW button

WAIT while the conversion of the files takes place and the file names are displayed in the skips, sucess and fail windows( should have no fails as these files failed to convert to the wanted type but are in the NOT wanted type, the skips are already in the wanted type, and the sucess files where not in the wanted type but now are)

click exit

now go and look at the files in the mod folder

I wanted to say thanks guys for all of the information given me concerning moding. Although I haven't figured it all out yet, but with the help you've given me - I'm on my way. I haven't played sins that much since total annihilations came out, although sins in a great game, I don't understand why all of the empires will mass together against me if I don't give them what they want.

It is simply too difficult to bend to the wants and wishes of others when your own empires is in dire need of development! Because of this, and the speed at which the other races develop makes it less enjoyable to me! I don't get the time, neither does the research develop fast enough to even dent their ships. I don't mine (and I more that likely can) defend myself against one, but all at one time, before I can develop into a thriving empire! I don't know - mabe its just me, but should be like that? I suppose I will continue to try - but I'm also supposing that the effort wouldn't make sense.

From what I have played in SoA, the orignal, and SW, I enjoy the game, but I am sad about that part of the game.

Thanks guys for your help. This is the first forum I entered that really tries to help  .... again - Thanks guys!
