stats exploit - PROOF!

After an intense, back-and-forth round on Cataract, sho333 and his teammates start whining when they realize their cause is lost.  Naturally, they immediately begin to blame their strategic shortcomings on lag.  Who hasn't heard that one before?  And of course, they only start whining about lag AFTER they begin losing.  As the Citadel neared its death, they also started blaming Demigod itself for being buggy and p2p and some other shit that I really wasn't paying attention to and cared nothing about.  I was occupied with sitting next to their Citadel and misting their only reinforcements while they were AFK at the health crystal.

Anyway, as the Citadel finally collapsed, wouldn't ya know it, sho333 disconnects and his teammate says: "He didn't desync correctly."  Indeed, the game did not desync, but he succeeded in making the game 'disappear.'

This game was played a few hours ago and as of now has still not showed up in stats.  I could really care less about stats, nobody cares about my rank and I don't care about my rank and in any case there are a thousand people ranked higher than me, sho333 included.  I play Demigod to have fun, and fun was had.  In fact, after all that whining, as the Citadel came down I was pretty much expecting someone to desync/quit.  So sho333's actions definitely provided some amusement for myself and my team members.

Most amusing of all, I remembered to take a screenshot!  Behold, sho333's disconnect, in all its glory!

I know a lot of people are frustrated about the stats exploits -- hope this screenshot helps the developers in fixing the problem.  In the meantime, I highly recommend the following course of action:

1) Join sho333's game.

2) Join his team.

3) As your team nears victory, use a stats exploit as the enemy Citadel comes crashing down.

4) Enjoy a hearty laugh.

Did invalid game state appear after the counter kicked off or did you just see the victory screen after the counter?  This indicates the specific exploit used.

That's a good point -- there was no desync counter.  The game ended as normal after the disconnect, but it was not recorded in stats.

Now that you mention it, I had just associated "desync exploit" with "not showing up in stats" in my mind when in fact there was no desync at all.  Just a host quit exploit then?

Fair enough... yes - host did 1 of 2 things to cause his pc to disconnect from the internet.  Host disconnect exploit.

Edited the post to clarify the type of exploit used.

Severe lag will definitely mess up the game, so much so I try to kick laggy people out of my games.  Don't downplay the issue please, half of peoples losses are easily from team mates dropping mid game.  And lag certainly does effect the timing of your abilities. I've had games where my general wouldn't move or cast shield because of lag, it's the jerky game jumping that causes it that can cost you the the game.  Since demigod netcode is just horrible garbage, and the auto dropping team-mates should be able to be turned off, sometimes the the latency for everyone is fine but one of your team mates lag spikes from time to time cuasing the game to drop your team mate, it blows but I doubt GPG will ever fix the garbage netcode in demi since low sales.

WOW! Demigod is really unique!

We have different types of exploits!

Stardock, please make some new more annoying exploits for us, so that decent players wont get any wins at all, and the exploiters/hackers are all at 100% win rate.

Help them rape the game even more!

Oh, and dont forget to make new bugs too.

Now is the time when ZehDon comes and tells you that you dont have a clue and that the Demigod netcode is perfect.

Be ready for it! Any minute now...

It sucks when teammates drop, it's happened to everyone.  And laggy games are not fun, either.  But lag is a disadvantage to both teams, and more often than not players in Demigod seem quick to blame lag for a badly strategized move.  I actually died once in this game, and missed a kill as well, both due to the timing problem (at least from my point of view), but our team still won and I didn't complain about it to the other team.

What's even more ludicrous is that sho333 said something to the effect of "this lag invalidates this game imo".  Ironically, nothing can 'invalidate' a Demigod match aside from a stats exploit!  He wouldn't have said anything like that had he been winning three-quarters of the way into the match with the same amount of lag, I guarantee it.  There's no excuse for using the host disconnect exploit, regardless of lag or drops.

In addition, the lag itself wasn't really that bad.  It was fine at first, then about halfway into the game it started to slow down as more reinforcements spawned... leading me to believe that someone possibly had a slow framerate/upload speed problem?  There were no ping spikes and pings were stable the entire match.  Anyway, even at the very end, the lag was manageable, and irritating at worst.

*sigh* sho333 is just another name to add to that rather long list of players to avoid online...

Oh btw I miss you morph we had some good games, have you stopped playing DG for good?

Hmmm..  I've gotten to the point that I really dont care about the disconnects and the invalid game state errors.  Makes it easier to get a game if my win/loss ratio is closer to 50%.  So if I am winning and the host induces a critical game state, so be it.

I stopped playing DG about 3 weeks ago....

But I played 1 game today (kind of like a test game for me), a usual cataract 3v3 custom game. And guess what... Nobody dropped, no Disconnects, no ragequits, no invalid error, nothing!!! I just couldnt believe it. I wasnt even concentrated to the game (died 4 times), waiting for some problem or exploit to appear, and miraculusly nothing happened! I couldnt believe it!

So, I may come back, but right now, 1 invalid error is enough to make me Uninstall the game for good :|

I pretty much gave up on online Demigod, but just found out 2 of my friends got it for Christmas.  That means we could do a possible 4 player team (although more than a 3v3 if usually near impossible for me).  I tried to explain to them the "challenge" of dealing with the DG online community.  They just said "No problem, we'll just all play unranked games".  I had to tell them there was no unranked, and about rage-quits, the possible lobby kicks and purposeful desinks.

Leave it to say, they are very nervous about trying any sort of online play except 2v2.  But I'm hoping I can lure them into a 4v4 game sometime in the future.
