The Borg are intentionally overpowered. This was our plan from day one. Especially for Diplomacy. The Borg are meant to be balanced vs all four other factions combined, and if you let them tech up then they are meant to be unstopable. This turns the game into beat the clock along with forcing you to make allies to defeat the borg. Things havent went exactly as planned, but we are ironing out the flaws. Some may remain because of the nature of sins itself. If i had my way (and the knowledge along with free time) i would make a new game from scratch that avoided all of the sins roadblocks. However we are just modders, and not programmers. So we do the best with what we have to work with, and what we know how to do. Suffice to say the SoA 2 team has done an outstanding job in my absense. I wish i could do more to help, but the free time is just not there. You dont know how frustraiting that is.
The range problem is that all sins ships when set to dynamic movement will always try to move to their maximum range before they fire their weapons. So the ships with a longer firing range will move away to reach its maximum range while the shorter ranged, and faster ships chase them. This creates the situation of ships chasing each other outside of the gravity wells (this includes ships with aft firing weapons). The way to fix this is to make all weapon ranges the same, or have the gap between short, medium , and long range narrowed.

You can't take on the Borg 1 vs 1... or even 5 vs 1, by using brute force... But you can beat them if you think like a Rommie... stealthy, sneaky, cunning...
What do you do when 4+ cubes supported by spheres, coffins and planet assimilators begins sweeping through your systems, sneaking won't help when your structures and non-cloakable ships are being popped in seconds, adding to that I think the borg's diamond class cruiser is able to counteract the effects of most anti-borg abilities.
It's all very well somehow managing to disable all of the cubes switfly, but that means nothing if you don't have a force capable of destroying them before they become operational again.
I'm sorry... I didn't mean to imply you can beat the Borg 1vs1 as a Romulin... I should have been more clear on that. You still need a lot of allies as back-up. But even in a 8vs1 against the Borg, or whatever, my personal preference is playing Romulin. Nothing against the Klingons, but I will always take speed and stealth over brute strength. I like being able to sneak in and cripple 4 Cubes and their escorts, even if for only a few seconds, if I know 5 or 6 more fleets are on the way. If you time it right a few seconds should be all you need. Yes, it will still be one hell of a battle... and I very well might lose... but that's what I'm counting on. So if I am leading this suicide mission, then my personal preference for a "First Strike" fleet is as a Romulin.
So far I really like how the BORG are behaving. In fact the last couple of updates you've done I noticed a couple of disturbingly intelligent moves on the AI's part... hehe.
The only thing I don't like is the new, smaller Uni-complex. I liked the older gigantic one, that was terrifying...

I completely agree, I was very sad to see the unicomplex shrink. I loved the idea of basically having borg technology completely fill the gravity well and when I saw a giant unicomplex mazing through the space around the planet, it just shouted borg supremacy.
I agree with Stress... the Borg becomes a race against the clock. If you can engage them earlier rather than later, you can really hurt them. However, if you wait until they start cranking out cubes, and start upgrading their bases and weps, they start getting insanely hard fast. They have compensated for the borg's late game uber'ness by making things like research stations very very expensive, and take many slots, which I think makes it okay. If the borg is to get to the cube phase, they have to have a lot of planets.
I too miss the Unicomplex where every time you upgrade it, becomes larger. I imagine they have good reason they took it out, which is fine with me.
Glad you guys are still doing your thing. O and if Stress is Balancing the Mod well your all screwed

i have not balanced the mod at all since my last attempt to assist was shot down because it was "too complicated"...lol i walked away at that point, but it balanced out everything....lol
i do have a re-suggestion to help you guys out with the "fighting outside the bounds of system space". Long time ago i explained there were certain factors making them do this like # of attackers, speed, weapon ranges, and mesh size bounds. I've seen it the most with capital ships they are slow to accelerate, turn, and always want range.
I thought we were as well but oh well.
Dip Mod is already out of date as the new patch was just released.
1 day and out of date has to be a record for any mod of any game.
I noticed that, they should have waited for the full version of the latest patch.
A few observations of the version released at current.
1. Problems with race icons and player portraits. Several icons were showing up as 3 seperate things - The klingon emblem appears as such when you select it, appears as something different when looking at current player setup, and something different still in game (although the last 2 may be the same). Portraits in setup are Star Trek, portraits in game (specifically on the HUD) aren't.
2. White boxes around the speed control on the HUD.
3. Mini-dumped mere seconds after attempting Federation Diplomatic vessel research - less than 10 minutes into the game (t'was a Fed, Kling, Rom and Dom against Borg setup, if that helps).
Hope these help in some way.

This version of the mod I choose to release to those who were on the dip 1.19f beta. Error wise its pretty clean. Yes the ui is still a wip also much or the mechanics are still a wip. The dump i am confounded on as i am able to play that build for countless hours. none the less it was only up for download for a limited time. Needless to say time is up. Just a little teaser for all of our devoted fans that check our pages regularily as to what is to come!!
thanks jay

Hm. Strange.
I think I found the glitch, you can fix it yourselves, assuming I'm right, by going into the gameplay.constants file and editing the rebellion settings. FrigateKlingonRebelHeavy should be FrigateKlingonHeavy. Legacy entry from the Entrenchment version that somehow evaded a six hour AI game.

If i were balancing the mod you would NEVER be able beat the Borg. Even with all the factions combined muahahaha!
You released it for Diplomacy?!.. I am always the last one to find out anything :/
Dip 1.2 is out, and not much has changed with it since 1.19f. Just double check the researches, and gameinfo (beyond compare would be good right now).
When are you coming back to EvE Shimmer?
Anyone having problems downloading with Dropbox?
yes they got swamped, too much traffic.
