Does ANYONE like MOO3 better than GalCiv?

Does ANYONE like MOO3 better than GalCiv?

And is anyone as disappointed in MOO3 as I was?

LOL
But honestly:who would not love to see this elerian scientist instead of the GalCiv research-o-bot when you get a new tech ;) ?
(oh well,I´m getting increasingly unconstructive, sorry for that...)

Yes of course Bobo is right, in the end it's all a matter of opinion. I was just so disappointed with MOO3 I wanted to test the waters and see other people's reactions.

Sorry if this is already an old thread topic. There are some newbies here. How many little 'medals' do you see under my name? Hope to add some there soon, but job and life interfering too much with GalCiv playing!

Yes the Elerians, it might actually be worth digging up the MOO2 CD to get those graphics in there instead of the 'bot. But we digress ...

Yes, it has been in development for a very long time, but sometime last year ( march, I think ) , they decided to cut away a lot of features and redesign the rest, so the whole thing got very..well, inconsistent, if you know what I mean. They got really confused after the re-design, according to some interviews, so one could call that a rushed-out product

Well, to be more accurate, you would say they cut away a lot of features and 'forgot' to redesign all the other features that depended on them. Thus we have, for example, the ability to feignt or ruse in combat and win just about every time, because those tactics will never fail. In the original design, they required a high experience troop leader and you had a chance even a high level leader could fail to pull it off. And if you failed you got stomped. BAD.

And we have, for further example, the flood of messages in the sitrep about stuff that is of absolutely no concern to us (especially in the tech department), because at one time you'd have to use IFPs to go and fix things so that the tech delay didn't happen.

Lesson is this, if you fire all your designers, never redesign a product in mid-production.

Yes,you are right there. That´s more precise.

Additionally,I would have really liked to see religions implemented.Could have been a lot of fun.
Ruse and feign never fail ( or at least almost ) ? Oh no...that ground combat system has such potential in it, I think. Not another flaw.Oh well...get used to it somehow :( .

But I really fell of my chair laughing when I saw some of those invasion methods in GalCiv - fire asteroids at enemy planet and so on.Well, not inherently funny - situational humor perhaps.Very cool IMHO .

I still Havn't decided which is worse...

the moo3 message board or the moo3 game.

hmm well being a DIE HARD MOO player I will say=MOO3 suxors compared to GAL...big thing that irked me was non retrofit capability as well as an AI that seemed to suffer from ADD...game seemed like it was "rushed" out the door for release..but thats just me

Yes, GalCiv doesn't take itself over-seriously. And that's a good thing.

I was fanatical about Moo3 before its release...

And it was the biggest letdown ever.

The fact that I am now playing GalCiv instead, becaue moo3 was so bad, attest to that.

I have to agree about GalCiv being better then MOO3. I followed the MOO3 saga from the net for a while and didn't like the turn it took when Alan Eimrich (who wrote a great hint book for Civ) was released from the project.

Overall I think it was too ambitious an idea to deliver.

GalCiv seems to play somewhat cleaner but I am still stumbling around in my second game. I was really disappointed in the manual and did flame on it a bit. It seems to be a trend nowadays to skimp on the manual and let these message boards fill in the gaps. I am encouraged by the way the developers do read the posts and seemed to be in tune with the ideas pouring in.

I was really surprised at how quickly the mods are pouring in. It shows the love some folks have for this game.

JayG yeah I tried the MOO3 forums. It's totally pointless putting your opinion on the MOO3 forums, the MOO3 forums is a total mess - visually its OK, but you can't criticize MOO3 without a swarm of fanatical, bullish, condescending people with a superiority complex giving abuse. Whenever I did put an opinion on the MOO3 forums, it was always the same situation: they never listened, they argued and they always excused the game saying that there's nothing wrong with MOO3, it's you that's wrong.

I never did buy MOO3 and I never will. Partly because the game is a overly complex mess and party because of the forums. If I had bought the game, it would have meant using the MOO3 forums, which I will never again do.

I think the reasons why MOO3 was so disappointing was: unfinished, overly complex, lousy combat graphics (from what i've seen and heard), developers did not listen to their fans, developers skewed wildly from what made the first two MOO games so popular, extremely buggy, I also didn't like the design of the ships and the fun factor was forgotten.

The things I liked about MOO3 are: Lots of aliens, cool realistic looking alien designs, tactical combat, good diplomacy screen.

Things I don't like about GalCiv - not as many aliens and I sorta don't like the alien designs, no tactical combat, doesn't seem to be enough money making technologies/opportunities (can't build all buildings without colonies losing money even on type 26 planets)

Things I like about GalCiv - AI, diplomacy, UI.

Finally a question - what are the in-game cinematics like in MOO3? I can't compare the cinematics between MOO3 and GalCiv cause I haven't played MOO3 (I might get MOO3 as a budget release which is what it's worth).

After the codepatch Moo3 became finally playable... But while there are things I like about it, there are other things that make galciv better... I think mainly the speed, in what you can play galciv helps a lot! Even with all the automation in Moo3 it is much slower if you want to be able to compete with the AI's.
Trading is really annoying and time consuming in Moo3! You must design new ships as soon as you have new technoligies in order to be competative in Space Combat because the AI-Empires do that aswell.
Espionoage, which indeed is more important than in Galciv also is quite tedious since I have to care about every single spy instead of simply setting a budget for espionage/counterespionage...

Where the game really beats Galciv are the space combats... ´they are not very exciting but still fun when it comes to battles between large armies.

Many people don't like MOO3 coz' it's completely different from earlier products in the gendre. I liked many options but diplomacy and espionage are terrible. Ship design and fleet combat is what I really miss. Frankly, GalCiv is not about fighting aliens. All aliens in Galciv are modified humans, living on the same planets and eating the same food. Imagine Silicoids importing 'drengin silk' to their boiling planet;)

OT: one of my favorite episodes in BG saga were meetings with pansy ranger. Didn't like books but in-game trashing of elves, espesially dark, was one of the best things LOL

To all Elerian lovers:

No longer have my moo2 CD (I Ebayed it as Moo3 got released thinking i'd never want it, muahaha) but you can just do a Google Image Search for Elerian and use those pics....

The quality isn't perfect, but I suspect the Moo2 cd files look the same.
