I dislike to be the fly in the ointment...I'm having CTD problems with 1.05.71. My SDC is build 16 and I have even uninstalled and reinstalled twice now.

I'm really into this game but kinda think that I shouldn't update every time there is a new version availiable as I cannot seem to get it working in a stable fashion now.

I have the retail version? does that make a diffrence at all in the update, CDT thing? (as you can see my computer knowledge (or lack there of) here might be the problem).

Hope to be Galciving again soon!

-mD- rHyMe: right...let me get this straight...you don't know what CTD stand for??

No, to your question, it doesn't matter if you have the retail or download.

Try this, uninstall galciv completely...ie use the uninstall program and select custom, follow by select all...to delete all files.

Than restart your computer...install galciv, restart your computer, than install bonus pack, follow by patch 1.05

Ray CBS, um . .. no sry, I was talking about how sometimes when a Ship or Technology has a L - O - N - G . . . name there's no word wrap around (e.g. Omega Research for the Mickahel Gorbichov Fashion Scense etc or a ship called yada yada 1328 (only you can't see all the numbers and you have others with similar extensions)). Its no big deal, I'm being padantic, I guess you could just rename the ships but the techs are another matter etc . . .

Off topic 'Why do the Dreg's always want to cuddle'? It makes me . . . ehm 'uncomfortable'. ;p

A strange thing happened to me, but I don't know what caused it. When I tried to reload a game I had saved (on version 1.05) the interface was entirely empty! The basic outline was there, but there was no information filled in. The main star view was all red, the foriegn relations screen had a blank area where the races went, and the titles for the races were "test text". It looks like I'll have to start a new game. (:(

Another thing I noticed was that the spelling errors were not fixed (you can find them on the bug report thread). That's all for now! ;)

Oh, I just figured out what happened on the post above (and yes, it is a bug). It turns out the name of my save game was a single "space", as I will demonstrate here:
:) . But anyways, the game did not create the save folder for the save game, and the file name for main save file is ".sav". It seems the game ripped out the space character and tried to create a folder which did not have a name. That's _really_ it for now!

Erm... one strange thing.

The fundamentalists took my best system. (I was trying the dark side, for once...)

The problem is that when I took it back it had like... incredible population (EXACTLY the same number on the three planets, and wasn't changing with turns). When it gets something like 10 times (don't remember the exact number) its population in a few turns, it's weird.

LeegleechN - SNAP! I had exacly the same thing, I just loaded a Previous save and everything was cool. Wow freaky. :notsure:

I also notice the star screen was blood red and the AI chat screen had the words Test . . . something or other in each box?

I had it too, reported it in the bug thread.

- There is a bug when paying Tribute of more than 0 turns: You pay for one turn less than you should! So if you make a payment of 1 turn instead of 0 you are going to save some money (up to 40%). I don't know if the bug also works when receiving tribute.

The first payment is made a soon as you make the agreement, thus the first turn of the duration has already passed.

Except that the next month's payment is not deducted. You get credit from the AI for paying 2X, buy you only pay X. I tested it myself.

Shak...I understand that CTD is Crash To Desktop (at least thats what is happening to me).

I followed your instructions to the letter but have found that after I uninstalled and then reinstalled (including reboots) and I started SDC the Bonus Pack was already installed...I could only update the Multimedia and the GalCiv files.

Appreciating your help,

Hopefully Frogboy you haven't lost interest in this topic yet... :)

Everything is working fine for me. I think things are stable, the AI seems to be working well (although I agree that the Yor needs a little bit of help). The minor civs do seem maybe a tad weak, but I would rather see them do better militarily and technologically then change their trade algorithms...I like having profitable trades with them early on! :D

That's right, but I'd guess that there should be a 2nd payment in the next turn but it isn't...

SmartException, which is in the free stuff tab, will give us logs that allow us to find out what causes a CDT (crash to desktop).

I've played 1.5 games with the new patch.

I moved down to painful to try it out.
It seemed EASIER than ever.
I was in first place the entire game, without ever building an offensive ship.

I used to USS HERO to invade a couple planets right at the end.... my score was 11000 which is more than twice my best crippling score.

Is the military power graph calculated differently now?

One thing I noticed that I really liked... it's easier to play like the Drengin -- as soon as I was way ahead I could bully other civs for money... and they default bully amount was no longer 100. Maybe the AI is giving us a break in not having to guess what they will pay, which is a GREAT improvement. (I extorted 1100 from one race, it was the default listed amount).

I'm not sure if I'm actually GETTING the money, cause the display seems weird... but asking for it works much better.

I am personally quite satisfied with 1.05. A few random CTD, but nothing serious.

The only thing I wish would be looked into is the way the AI defends its planets when you start attacking ships in orbit. More than often (and this seems to be happenning with any AI, not one in particular), the turn after you initiate the attack, the AI would get all his offensive/defensive ships out, leaving only non military ships and one (1) military ship in orbit.

This is happenning even at crippling level (haven't tried maso since 1.05) and I think it is a little silly :)

I haven't had any serious problems with 1.05. The only thing I would like to mention is that the planets screen(when you push the planets button) doesn't always seem to update, so when fx a research center is going to be finished in 2 turns the number isn't updated when I push the turn button. Apart from this minor flaw I have no complaints what so ever :)
