Should I buy

Bit of a star trek fan, and noticed a total conversion that requires Twilight of Arnor to play. I am going to by the Gal CiV 2 Ultiamte addition but I will need to patch it. If the computer you play you game on is not connected to the internet, is it still possible to use impulse with valid authoirzation codes? The only access to the net I have is at Uni, and their set up does not allow for any downloading of programs on a desk top.??

Any advice would be greatly apprecited.

If you do not have access to the internet on the destination PC, you can use Impulse Anywhere to download the most current version of the game and then copy that to your PC for install.

As long as you can download files through a web browser and save them to something portable, this should help you.

That for the reply Gargabee

Went to the link and registered, and it comes up with a dowload link for Impulse exe. This is where I reun into problems. I can dowload the exe fine, but on the Univercity computer you can't just install a progrem on thier computers (ie impulse) and I am assuming that Impulse must be installed, then patch downloaded and saved to a portable medium. If so, I am still in the same boat, unable to get lastest patches even though I own the game.

I'm not the big tech guy, but can you plug in an UBS stick/portable HDD to the university PC?

If so...shouldn't it be possible to install Impulse on that portable drive?

Sounds like a Lock-Down on the PC. We do it our office as well to prevent users installing non-standard software that would screw up our Custom setup. Local install require Admin rights. It is a Security thing.

You should not have to install Impulse on the university PC. You just need to use the university PC to download the files from Impulse Anywhere. Once you have the files downloaded, copy them to your detination PC. This is the PC you will need to install Impulse on. Once Impulse is installed, you can run the installer for the game that you downloaded from Impulse Anywhere. If the destination PC is a university PC that is locked down, you might then be stuck.

Thanks again for the qiuck respones guy. So, my Uni pc is indeed set up so that only admin can load programs, however if I can dowload the correct files from impulse, as Garabee states, I will be able to download patch (in some unreconiable form that only impulse can read) and install impulse on my home pc (no internet connecttion) which will then be able to install the patch (Am I understanding you right Garabee) then this could work. Will try and find patch to dowload.

Cheers

The version of the game you download from Impulse Anywhere will be the most up to date version. As long as you can copy the installer, the archive files, and the Impulse installer to your home PC you should be good to go. For future updates, you need to re-download the entire game from Impulse Anywhere as standalone patches are not available.

Yep thankfully this isnt steam, Stardock-developed games usually only need a one time activation on impulse and theyre yours forever and ever and Impulse doesnt tries to verify the instlation everytime you access it like Steam. (at least thats how it works for me).

Uh, I'm not actually downloading the game, I just purchased the cd version as I have had some bad experieces with online download. So, does this mean no patch for me?. Also, there seem very little activity on the bug page so I will post my problem here as well. Originally I owned gal civ 2 DA, and at the moment it is still on my computer. I would like to uninstall it and start with a fresh install from my new disk. However, I cannot find a way to uninstall it, as its not in the program list and there is no unistall tab in the run menu. Surley I don't just delete the relevent file do I?

P.S If I cannot patch I do think this is a little harsh for someone with a valid serial number and somone who has bought the game twice!!

As Gargabee noted there is no "patch" file, which just means that you would need to (re)download the whole game if you're doing an offline install in order to update it, not that you can't update it.

We don't produce standalone patchers any more as Impulse can simply look at the files on the machine and the files on the server and download the ones that have changed; no messy or time-consuming packaging or testing on all different previous versions of the game is needed, so we can deploy patches much more rapidly. Most people at this point have internet access on their home machines, so this is not an issue generally.

As noted on the other thread, if you installed from the disc and it's not appearing in add/remove programs, please contact support@stardock.com for help in removing it manually.
