Ah, by that time of night it just looked like gibberish to me. ![]()
Install SmartException from under SDC. If it is running while Gal Civ crashes, it will pop up a dialog asking you to submit the report. Hit submit, open log directory, and the file will be galciv.exe.cra.
e-mail it to me at cbegle@stardock.com along with your debug.err and gc1.log
I searched alround for the log folder or file . . it did dump a ***.exe.cra file onto my D drive but I wasn't sure if that was what you were refering too because the SmartException caught about 5 crashes in all (are they all loged in this 3k file?).
Anyway the White window after each crash didn't have anything in it, although the program did seem to acknowledge that I was using win 2k and a GeForce 440.
Shoulds all the boxes in the configuration be ticked? I'll e-mail you what I have anyways and see if its of any use . . . thanks.
P.S. I finally crossed the Final Frontier (yeay!)albeit while crashing A over T in the final straight all the way to nirvana. It actually made the jorney that little bit more dramatic lol.
Hang on a sec if I use note pad it says:-

So this happens after you finish researching a tech?
That's a system dll...usually when GC crashes outside of its own code, it's something else causing the problem. You should check to see if there are any newer video or sound drivers for your system.

Anyway after I built a transport on six of my planets (that where seriously flipping everything around them) I evacuated the colonists, I clicked on details then destroy colony, then 'YES' . . . I did this for all of them during which at some point it would CTD. This happened every time I tried to do this after a reload ond restart.
After reading some advice given to me here on these boards I reloaded the game but instead persuided the course of building a cultural influence SB at the sites of the problem and gifted these to the AI along with the planets. This worked.
No crashes occured doing this. So in conclusion, destroying the empty colonies was what seemed to be CTD for the game above I mentioned rather than the research.
Hope that helps, and thanks for you attention.
P.S. I admit it I didn't exactly evacuate 'all' the colonies before I destroyed them, I am ashamed to admit . . .

Hmm...I'll check out the destroy colony code. I thought that I had gotten the last of the crashes out of that...
'ware those moments, for the seg faults and out-of-bounds accesses have merely withdrawn to gather their strength and ambush you after the next major release
