"X Race Found Something That Will Enable Them to Rule the Universe"

I can't remember the exact wording of said event, but it's happened twice to me in the early game now, both time to good empires while I was taking the good path, and the second time, to an empire I hadn't even located yet (Altairians, on the far side of the galaxy).

I'm ambivalent about its appearance, as both cases made the game harder for me, but it's worked out fairly well so far. I'd just like to play a game where I don't have to take out half to one-third of my potential good friends in the first 150 turns or so. :)

I'm about to lose a game to that very thing....wasn't in a position to hurt them and they are running roughshod over everyone now. Ya, it's annoying, but I like it. If I could have got to them early it'd be a much different game...but if such a thing could never happen, it'd be one less interesting dynamic in the game, so it's still fun to me!

Well, like I said, it wasn't bad, just annoying that in both of my recent "play as good" games, the saintly races are hit with that event, meaning I had to wipe out one of my potentially strongest allies.

In the first game this happened to me, the Drengin (who were chaotic good) declared war on me for being "Evil." Since I hadn't had enough moral choices to shift from neutral to good, but had made all good choices, this bothered me.

Ive seen that event

Happened to the altearans but at that point in the game they were bottled up in a corner with like 3 planets.
I had good intell so I kept checking their stats thinking they would jump through the roof. The stats didnt change and it left me wondering what exactly that event did for them.I quit that game soon after as it was appearant that I was unstoppable.(my first game on sub-normal)

The event is a warning that they *will* do something if they're not taken care of. It only happens for races that are already sliding into oblivion.

So what does the event do, exactly? I've seen it 3 times now but ususally the empire in question was about to die from my fleets by the time it hit them.

I dunno. The first time I got it, I conquered the offending race. The second time, they surrendered to the Yor while I was waiting for my transports to catch up.

They were far away. I had to build a starbase just to get my ships the range they needed to invade. :)

In the program's data this event is tagged a 'comeback' and I've seen it way too many times. In fact, in my first large map game (today) it happened early in the game before I even got rolling and pretty much ruined the game (IMO). If this was a standard 'random event' (in the game data) I'd have removed it days ago.

So can you explain what this event does if it is not taken care of and the race that got it managed to survive?

They get a huge fleet and start conquering everything in their path.

I would like to see it not happen until later in the game, when you're likely to actually be in contact with all the major civs.

The event adds one point to a random stat (of which there are currently 27 of) each turn.

So they get +1% economy, +1% military, +1% trade, +1% ground troops and so on until it catapults them into being a super race?

Cool.

Priest, I've only seen it happen to the AI, but I've only ever been on the ropes once (never, ever, agree to peace when you've nearly broken the AI's military, unless it's on your terms).

I just played a game on huge in which the Altairians got this while they were the strongest civ.

I actually won, probably because I actively pursued an alliance with them. :)

I'm very much hanging out to get this event to happen to me. :)
Had it happen a couple of times, once to the Yor, once to the Torians, from memory. Neither side ended up dominating, but they did make a noticeable comeback from the brink. Pretty cool! :)

I usually wipe out the race that gets it within a few game-years just to stop it. One time, the Altairians said "You'd better stop, 'cause we're developing a secret weapon to destroy you!" and then surrendered to the Yor a turn later. That surrender actually kept the Yor alive until the game's end, since I took all their worlds around their start system.

I decided not to, just to see what would happen - I kept my military strong enough to smash the Altairians if they tried anything (and we were allies, so) and kept pressure on the Arceans (who were the major troublemakers).

Anyway, if it's really supposed to go to a waning civ, it should've gone to the Torians, who were on life support directly from my treasury and navy to keep them alive against the Yor and Drengin.
