Minor, But Very Annoying

I love GalCivII. The game is great. But there is one thing that has always driven me nuts. I know people will say it's my fault and I'm an idiot. I know there's quick load and quick save keys. The thing is- Load and Save game SHOULD NEVER be on the same screen! It's way too easy to go into that screen and load a game and lose the one you are currently playing. I just lost a planet that the UP gave me because of that! This is the only game that I've ever owned where I have that problem. Even autosave every turn didn't help me here.

Please remeber that for Elemental*, Frogboy.

Sigh. [/rant]

* I'll buy it either way. :)

Or at least put a confirm button for when you load a game with a game running. This isn't the only game I've seen have the save feature require a confirm to overwrite but not have a confirm for loading a save over an existing game. It is annoying every time, and only made worse by having the load and save buttons right next to each other.

I agree - this is really poor interface design. I've already lost progress from this on a couple of occasions and I've only been playing a few days. You should be asked to save your current game before loading a new one. Or, at the very, very least, don't assign an action to double-clicking a game file in the Load/Save screen - make the user click the appropriate button at the bottom.

I've been playing computer games for 25 years and I've never had a problem READING and KNOWING what I Intended to do when I was SAVING or LOADING a game. If you're too impatient to pay attention to what you are doing then you deserve to lose anything you lost.
