Steam + CD keys, and the lack thereof

i just bought the orange box at a store.  when i tried installing it, i discovered that it had no CD key, which is vital to install/register the game.  i have contacted the steam support.  how long could it take to get a response, and what are the odds of me actually getting a CD key?

Gamestop employee might have stolen the key.
