New to modding and mapping; help please

Hi,

First of all i would like to say that i recently started playing; and i absolutely love this game!!!

After 3 days i still can't get enough of it. However, i want to take it to the next level; modding/mapping.

This will enable me to mold the game to my preferences, and from what i've read and seen, it's easy too!

Now, i don't have too much experience with this kinda stuff, so some pointers will be helpfull.

I already started mapping, and so far i'm getting along just fine. Just have a question about Wormholes; the phase lanes don't seem to work...

And, if anyone would like a partner for some mapping; i'd love to help.

I'll start Modding when i'm satisfied with my mapping skills.

btw, This community is AWESOME! Great support and friendly admins.

Well, I can't help you much with mapping, but when you start getting into modding and have questions, don't hesitate to ask ;)

Welcome to Sins :D

v1russ_nl, what are thedifficulties you are haveing on the wormholes?

, I did spend a bit of time over the last year and a half learning mapping in both the forge and designer, and I understand where you are coming from, as I am currently learning modding

Hey guys,

Thanks for the quick responses; i appreciate it.

@annatar11: ty i'll make sure to contact you when i start modding ^^

@harpo99999: well i couldn't get the wormholes to teleport... fixed that though. Just messed around a bit and found the solution myself. Thanks anyway, i'll let you know if i got any more issue's.

Ow btw; made my first map today; very proud of it allthough it is very basic.

Named it Facing Worlds, like the Unreal tournament map. I'm playing with the thought of uploading it here, but i'm not sure it's good enough for the community. maybe i should wait till i'm more experienced and can get out the minor problems and add some more goodies...

maybe one of you guys can have a look at it and perhaps give me some suggestions?

(edit: Designer? i don't know that tool; tell me more :D )

map designer is the in game map designer that designs random(partially) maps, from what I have read in the forums the map designer maps 'can' be shared during the setup of multiplayer games. I have NOT tried this myself so can not verify it

Ah yes i tried the in-game map designer but it just doesn't give enough control. Maybe it is useful for quickly creating maps and then editing them in galaxyForge, but i'm not going to use that tool too often.

and Harpo, i'm kinda perfecting my facingWorlds map, would u like to take a look at it when i'm done? (1-2 days)

I'm looking for some goodies to add so any hints or suggestions are welcome ^^

it sounds interesting , but at present I have my hands full with the mod updater program, and I agree with you that the map designer does not offer much control, but does offer a simple map creator for players

First, welcome to the comunity!:w00t: I hope to see you playing online.

Second, this community is very supportive and if you have any modding questions just post a thread and youll get an answer. Modding for Sins is hard to get started but once you know how it works it become quite easy. When you get a little better at modding you can make your own planets for your maps.

hi guys,

@harpo99999: Ok no problem. I'm sure i can find someone else.

@soasertsus: Thanx! I totally agree with you about the community; very helpfull and quick responses. I wish every community was like this  . But you need like textures for new planets don't you? I'll have to make some first and that's ANOTHER skill i'll have to learn then...

So when i get an idea for a mod i'll just try some random stuff and if it gets too hard i'll let u guys know.

Well, it's already 1:33 here in holland so i'd better get some sleep.
