Devs - I just need some things....

I have to admit that I am getting frustrated with whoever is responsible for getting an updated galaxy forge for us to be able to use. If there is another way of getting the one currently up to work with the newer versions I am all ears. The frequency of the updates from the game are affecting my favorite mods from coming out and the conditions of the game make it difficult for some mods to be made before the next update comes out and tramples on their progress. Because of these two conditions, My friends and I have not played this game in quite some time because everytime I get some progress going with maps or mods, the game is changed and not even my old maps will work anymore. I still check the website often and have been disappointed and it makes me not want to open impulse. Please do something about these issues.

naynayz, have you looked at my map updater?

I wrote it for the same sort of reason ie I had put a lot of time into making older maps of mine and I wanted to keep playing them. the MAJOR changes in the maps format from v2 to v3 during the entrenchment beta caused me to take a very close look at the map formats from 1.0,1.01,1.02,1.03,1.04,1.05,1.09,1.10,1.11,1.12,1.13,1.14,1.15 and the entrenchmenta .9,1.0,1.01. as a lazy programmer ie one that hates to do things more than twice I analyzed a particular map from each of the versions and created a list of changes in EACH section of the map structure and wrote a program to insert the changes in each section of the map and do all maps.

on a typical sins playing computer it will update all the maps that need updating within 2 minutes(usually about 30 seconds), and you can then use the updated maps with any computer running the sins 1.15+ & entrenchment

hey harpo, i just downloaded your map updater before 1.03 and 1.17 came out

will your updater still work or are you going to have to update it and then ill have to DL it again?

na, the maps stayed the same after the recent update, I am pretty sure it probably still works fine.

Not sure, but it was 1.14 that really messed the maps up, unless you just recently patched up, don't worry

yes the maps have NOT changed and I will post an update if there is another change

Hi Harpo :)

I saw that and will use it, however in my humble opinion... it is not (or should not) be the players responsibility to fix the issues that they created. They should have provided an updated version like they did before, or provided an exe to make the necessary modifications, not just leave us out to dry with no explination or reason to why they suddenly weren't providing those updates. It is simply bad business. It also does not address the updates they are sending that break mods before they come out (which I know is not supported so they aren't interested in addressing). I can see this as a bump in the road for them to learn from. Not make their players have to devote time to fixing what they should have fixed for us. Do I have to run it everytime I make a new map or does it modify galaxy forge? Thank you for picking up their slack on this one harpo!

naynayz, they are a small company and all of their staff are developing the patches and expansions for sins. if they were to pull one programmer from the updating and new expansions it could bump the expansions to more than a year between them, which I think the ENTIRE sins community would object to.

the map updater only updates maps from previous map versions to the current version. if you are using galaxy forge 3 or the map designer in sins then they create version3 maps that will work in all sins since 1.15 and all entrenchments to date.

as for the mods getting broken on each update I am currently writing a mod entity updater somewhat similar to the map updater, but I will be updating it within a day of a new patch coming out, the entity updater is still being written , and I will be announcing it in a new thread when it is ready for beta

I am using the most updated galaxy forge that they last provided. I have been able to get your map converter to work on my 1.16 version of sins but not 1.17. I messaged you the error that it gives me when I try to update my maps to the newest version. Now that they have their newes update out that should free up some time for them to look into this issue. I know it takes a community to help build a game but it helps when we are told that what has been expected because of their actions already (sending updated galaxy forges out and then suddenly stopping) we should be told. That way their customers that actually paid for the game can be aware and prepare for it and make the decision to update, not update and then find out later that it isn't coming. I am asking them for action and if not action at least give us the honor of communicating that change to us along with the update. Big company or small, they should still be keeping us in the loop on something that is problematic at best and frankly detracts from the game experience.

So maps that worked in v1.16 and Entrenchment 1.02 no longer work in 1.17 and 1.03?

ceturionjixra all of my maps that worked in 1.16/entrenchment 1.02 ARE working in 1.17 & entrenchment 1.03 without any changes.

there has been NO change to the map format.

naynaz's problem is to do with the sins version checking in the map updater and the quickest way around the problem is to edit the 'targetsinsver.txt' file with the current sins version which is 1.1.7.0.

I have been able to get 1.17 to work with it by changing the targetsinserver.txt and I can now see the maps in the regular sins version of the game but it doesn't show in entrenchment. Is there a separate galaxy folder for entrenchment?

naynayz did you put the maps in the program files galaxy folder? if yes then you NEED to EITHER move the maps to the user space galaxyforge folder OR edit the program files\entrenchment\galaxy.manifest OR obtain a copy of my galaxy manifest manager.

the move the maps is the RECOMMENDED choice

assuming you have sins 1.17/entrenchment 1.03,  the galaxy forge maps NEED to be placed here for xp
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

or here for vista/windows 7
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge.

NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden , so to see them you must first click on 'tools' then 'folder options', then 'view', then click on 'show hidden files& folders' then click ok, then you will be able to browse your want to the folder. I suggest when you find the folder that you create a shortcut to it on the desktop

also the galaxy forge maps only show up in the galaxy forge tab of map types
