Downloading Maps...

For some reason and I heard that it has something to do with the version, I downloaded a few maps but I just can't seem to find it in game. Is there anyway to either update the version or find out what exactly is wrong with maps I downloaded?

Me and a few friends have been trying to play a game for a really long time, and it never seems to work. Any explanations?

to update sins download & install impulse & register your serial

to install maps for sins 1.16 &/or entrenchment 1.02 follow these instructions

first you will want/need a either or both winrar and 7zip ot extract files then download and install galaxy forge from the sins download page
assuming you have sins 1.16/entrenchment 1.02,  the galaxy forge maps NEED to be placed here for xp
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

or here for vista/windows 7
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge.

NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden , so to see them you must first click on 'tools' then 'folder options', then 'view', then click on 'show hidden files& folders' then click ok, then you will be able to browse your want to the folder. I suggest when you find the folder that you create a shortcut to it on the desktop

also the galaxy forge maps only show up in the galaxy forge tab of map types

and if a map you want to play was released before 25th feb 2009 then you will also neet the sins map updater from here

Mine don't work when placed here- sometimes they show up under galaxy forge maps, sometimes they don't. But they show up 100% if copied to the Sins "Galaxy" directory and the Entrenchment galaxy manifest modified. Im on xpX64... maybe that has something to do with it... But the Galaxy Forge folder is hit or miss.

I made a map pack that has a scipted installer- you could take a look at that @ http://sins.terra-net.net/ . Also, the maps have to be the most current version. An updater has already been mentioned in a previous post and I have used it- so I know it works :)

gonzo I wrote the map updater, and I suggest that the version 2.01 is the version to use.

the locations work for me on xp32 vista 32 & 64 & win7 32 & 64 without problems which is why I recommended the location. I do have a xp64 machine but sins does NOT run in it so can not verify your statements. back in 1.15/entrenchment 1.00-1.01 I had a small utility to fix the galaxy manifest, and my manifest maker can also be used for the same trick, but the RECOMMENDED location by ironclad games is the galaxyforge folder

For some reason when I updated the maps, it game me a runtime error when I tried to view them in game. What's that about exactly

also make sure you are using the right version of the game with the right maps and mods.  they won't work unless you have compatable versions.

for sins version from 1.15 and all released entrenchment versions the map version SHOULD be 3 but do NOT JUST change the map version number,as this WILL crash the map and cause a lot of errors in the sins log, use the map updater that I wrote to to the job properly it will only take a few seconds to run and fix all the maps to version 3
